(British) Low Carb Chocolate Protein Bars
Frustrated with the lack of available ingredients in Britain, a friend and I have modified good recipes to include only easily available (High Street) ingredients.
To make it easier, we have even shown you where we bought it!
These bars are yummy and very low in carbs.
Ingredients
25g Chocolate 85% -- (Aldi)
50g (6tbsp) Whey Protein Powder -- (Holland & Barret)
20g (2tbsp) Soya Bran -- (Holland & Barret)
50g butter -- (Aldi)
20g (3tsp) hazelnut butter -- (Holland & Barret)
10ml (1 tsp) vanilla extract -- (Tesco)
1g (1tsp) Xyletol -- (Tesco)
15ml (1tbs) Da Vinci Syrup -- (sugarfreemegastore.com)
Method
Mix all the dry ingredients together.
Melt the butters, add the syrup and vanilla extract to the melted butter.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients.
Now the tricky secret bit: -*96-+
The mixture is very dry and weird. You need to use your hands to literally knead the mixture until it starts sticking together. Squeeze it till it becomes a lump of solidness.
THEN - put the lump on some clingfoil and form a big bar about 15 cm long and 10cm wide. You really need to push hard into a square shape, else the bars will just crumble. (I put some clingfoil over the top and squeeze on this)
Put in the freezer for 10 minutes (or the fridge for an hour - who wants to wait!). Take it out and cut into 7 bars.
The whole recipe contains 10.5 carbs - if you can get 10 bars out of the lot - better! But 7 makes nice sized squares that are not too stingy.
Carbs per bar: 1.4g
