Question Does anyone test for Ketosis? what level do you get?

Hi there

I am not 100% interested in Ketosis but you hear everyone talking about it.
So i thought i would go out and buy a kit and see if i was in ketosis. and i was.

Anyone else test for ketosis?

What level do you have?

When do you test?

What is your opinion on Ketosis?

Thanks guys looking forward to hearing from you about this

I test every once in a while. Doing Atkins before I always got "trace", but since upping my fats to 80% of my daily calories, I get the highest levels.

I test every couple of days mid to late afternoon. I don't know if being in ketosis is important, but it's definitely a visual thing for me.

I usually test at 80 mg/dL, but will get up to the highest (160) if I've had a very high-fat day.

I've heard people say that ketosis isn't the be-all-and-end-all. I don't know enough of the science to agree or disagree, but I'm in ketosis and I'm losing weight. That's good enough for me.

I test daily sometimes, it reminds me to keep on track. I also test if I have eaten something questionable. I usually test in the morning. I have also heard that if you are very well hydrated this lessens the reading, due to dilution.
I usually test low, but 6 hours after exercise it shoots up to much darker. This encourages me.

I found it was a bit like scales- I was jumping on those many times a day - so I try to test once a day, but lately I haven't bothered- probably because I know it will be negative- as I have been eating blueberries. My daughter is on a gluten free non dairy diet- and therefore so am I to some extent, which means I am eating many more vegetables- vegetables throw me out of ketosis.
Thanks for this thread, it will remind me to ensure I keep on track.

I will try a test a bit later on - As i have only had carb wise a Advocado this morning and i am interested to see how that will affect it. Its good to know that we are in ketosis but once these strips run out i dont think i will buy more.

I bought them at Boots over here and i felt like some sort of drug taker when i got asked "why do you want these" for goodness sake its a bloody test kit.

What i also think is that do they really think that by not selling us them that it will make us want to stop our diet?!?! lol

A lot of people say the sticks are a waste of money. but I know I used them everyday my first time around.
I think they are a very good visual.

over in Oz ketostix are predominantly for diabetics- my chemist won't sell them to me because they need them for the registered diabetics (I think they are subsidized) I go to a different chemist and just pay more. I was thinking of saying I'm a diabetic, but don't want to be offered a cheaper subsidized product that others need- even though I'm a candidate for diabetes

I just lost 19.9 lbs in about 5 weeks and used nearly a whole bottle of strips. They were negative all but 2 days, where I showed a trace.

Thanks!

It was frustrating getting no results on the ketone strips. It makes me think there is really something wrong with my metabolism. Well, there is. I am Type 2 diabetic.

I've been saying for about 10 years now, diabetes not a disease, it's a disorder: the inability to properly metabolize carbohydrates.

I think I'm right.
