The guidelines for phase 1 state that they recommend 1/3 to 1/2 cup of beans as part of the vegetables for lunch. Does this mean pinto beans and lentils or green beans?

Here is the list of beans from the phase I food list:
Quote:
BEANS/LEGUMES

(Start with 1/3 - 1/2 cup serving)
Adzuki Beans
Black Beans
Black-eyed peas
Broad Beans
Butter Beans
Cannellini Beans
Chickpeas or Garbanzo
Edamame
Great Northern Beans
Italian Beans
Kidney Beans
Lentils
Lima Beans
Mung Beans
Navy Beans
Pigeon Peas
Pinto Beans
Refried beans fat free canned - Added
Soy Beans (also known as edamame)
Split Peas
White Beans

Its not just for lunch as you are enocuraged to have them with dinner also.
Beans/legumes andlentils all fall into this category.
Green beans as in string beans? Those confuse me too but I consider them a phase I veggie.
I like hummus....and now I also make split pea soup or red lentil soup...I am not a big bean fan. Bean dips are a great way to get them in and use veggies to dip.

Really? I've always missed these on Atkins (a no no). I was raised on Pinto Beans, cornbread with fried 'taters (Probably the reason for my weight issues.) When I went on Atkins, these all went extinct from my menu. Its nice to think that I might be able to add at least the beans back to my diet.

Thanks for letting me know.

I'm looking forward to split pea soup in Phase II... I'm pretty sure it's off limits though for Phase I

If you're doing Atkins, I would gather that the beans are the green variety not the dried ones.

Here is the list of permitted foods:

I lost my old SBD book from 5 years ago, and the new 'Supercharged' version says no green peas in phase I. I double checked to make sure. Things have changed I guess.

After starting the SBD, I discovered I'm wheat intolerant. This means besides reading labels for carbs, I'm also reading for wheat. I thought cous cous was a type of rice! Amazing how this diet makes us conscious of what we put in our bodies.

Just curious, do the beans count as a protein if you are having it for lunch or dinner? For instance, at lunch I had a small bowl of stew made up of chickpeas, okra, canned tomatoes, onion, garlic and red curry powder.
