When I make radicial changes in my diet or what I'm drinking I get backed up too sometimes. If it gets really bad, I pop a bunker buster... aka a piece of a suppository. Usually after that I'm ok. it's just like there's some concrete up there and the bunker buster takes it out, then I'm fine.

I would consider adding some probiotics and checking your vitamin D levels in addition to the advice you've already read.
I was very close to trying the Failsafe diet when I started having trouble on a low carb GF/CF. (It was very paleo, I just didn't know it.) The probiotics and D seemed to help the amines/sals issue and the digestive issues. Oh, I forgot, I also tweaked my thyroid meds around that time.

What are the other six?

It doesn't look like Secondrain drinks any coffee at all. I don't either, yet I still have plenty of IBS problems.

I seem to be a member of a peculiar class of people. We're constantly hearing advice about how to improve our lives (sell your car, eat low carb, stop drinking coffee, etc), but we've already done these things. Why don't we see the wonderful benefits that other people rave about? We lived TV-free for a long time but we didn't seem to experience the copious free time that other people got from giving it up, so we started watching TV.

It just lists them:

1. Coffee (yes, decaf counts)
2. Yogurt (it's the safest dairy product for IBS...isn't it?)
3. Alcohol (just one glass of wine is okay, right?)
4. Vitamin supplements (they're good for you, aren't they?)
5. No insoluble fiber foods (they're triggers, so you just don't eat them, right?)
6. Too low a dosage of soluble fiber supplements
7. Not drinking enough water (doesn't soda pop count?)


Could also just be too much fat - this triggers the gastro reflex.

I have found yougurt to be extremely constipating myself. But I have dairy issues.

Sorry, Tomsey! That's what I get for skimming.

So I'm clear from 1,2,3,4, and 5. But I don't take any soluble fiber supplements. Isn't soluble fiber the kind that ferments in your gut? That's what we're trying to avoid, right?

I have no idea what "enough water" means. I drink when I'm thirsty, and it's usually seltzer with lemon. If I overdo it a little, I feel like crap.

I just ordered water kefir grains from ebay. I know fermented foods are probably not paleo and the sugar level is a little high, but our modern diets just don't have enough bacteria. I've been kefiring things like ginger and coconut water for a week and I both love the taste and my stomach has been very very happy.

i made my own kefir and comsumed it daily for over a year. i never did adjust to the yeast so went back to culturing buttermilk and yogurt.
just remember the longer it is cultured, the more tart it'll be and therefore there's little lactose left.
dom's kefir site is a great reference. google it.

From what I read, the folk-wisdom of this overestimates the amount of sugar the kefir consumes. I don't drink mine til its tart though, which takes a few days.
