Default Blood Tests results after 12 years of low carbing (for any naysayers ;) )

Ok, I started low carbing in the spring of 1997. At that time I had very high triglycerides, high LDL and low HDL and extremely low blood sugar. I'm female, 46 years old.

I eat a low to moderate (60-80 grams per day) diet.

Here are my numbers I got back today:

cholesterol: 186. normal is 0-200
chol/hdl ratio: 3.3 normal is 0.0-4.5
hdl: 56 normal is 45-100
ldl: 101.4 normal is 0.0-130
triglycerides: 147 normal is 35-160
blood glucose: 90 normal is 64-112

blood pressure this morning was 110/66

and this is all with high doses of prednisone which tend to make my counts a bit off.

so, as you can see, after 12 years of low carbing, I am VERY healthy and plan on staying this way!

Your triglycerides are pretty high for a low carber but maybe that's the prednisone. Probably is since it screws around with blood sugar and tends to make people diabetic.

I have rheumatoid arthritis. It always messes with my blood sugars but I can walk! I have to take the bad with the good.

I had my cholesterol checked a few months ago, having been low carbing for about six or seven months (and listening to people telling me how unhealthy low carb diets are and how high my cholesterol must be).

My results were all well within the normal limits and in fact my HDL was the in the lower range of normal.

And yet I STILL had the pharmacist lecture me on how unhealthy low carb diets are!! How is this possible? Before I started low carbing, I was eating loads of white bread, no salad and barely any greens or fruit, loads of crips, biscuits etc. Now I eat meat, salad, vegetables, no sugary drinks, loads of water, berries over the summer while they were in season, porridge a couple of times a week. I feel amazing and my cholesterol/BMI are normal. How is this unhealthY???

Sorry, rant over

That's actually not good. HDL is the good cholesterol and you want that as high as possible.
