Thumbs up 11 Weeks w/No Exercise...11 Weeks w/ Exercise

Today starts my 12th week following my low carb plan. I have completed this past 11 weeks with no exercise. I thought I would try and see how the next 11 weeks will turn out with Cardio included. I want to say I will do this everyday, but with kids you never know what will come up. I am going to commit myself to minimum of 3 days a week with Cardio to see how this affects my weightloss. Below is a breakdown of what my weightloss has looked like so far. You will also notice the "Typical Plateau" one will most likely have after the initial loss.

202 lbs 01/04/09 Starting Weight
195 lbs 01/11/09 -7
194 lbs 01/18/09 -1 Total Loss -8
190 lbs 01/25/09 -4 Total Loss -12
188 lbs 02/01/09 -2 Total Loss -14
186 lbs 02/08/09 -2 Total Loss -16
186 lbs 02/15/09 -0 Total Loss -16
184 lbs 02/22/09 -2 Total Loss -18 1st Mini Goal Met
182 lbs 03/02/09 -2 Total Loss -20
181 lbs 03/09/09 -1 Total Loss -21
179 lbs 03/16/09 -2 Total Loss -23

I will keep everyone posted on the affects it has. I would be interested to find out if anyone else has done this and how it has affected your weight loss.

I'm testing this too. But not on purpose. I just had surgery and can't exercise for 5 more weeks, and I have been at the same weight for at least 2 months, sometimes a little more. I'll let you know if I lose any significant weight after the 6 weeks is up.

Thanks bunzaga! I am really looking forward to seeing the outcome too. I just finished my first 30 minute walk / run on the treadmill. 1 day down, 10 weeks and 6 days left!!

i'm curious too. i've been having a regular dessert on saturday night dinner out night, well half a dessert because i share it with the hubby unit. in spite of my cheats, i've been steadily, albeit slowly, losing consistently.

last weekend i got a bug up my butt and went on a 5 mile bike ride after not exerting myself for 4 months. after the bike ride, i worked out on the bowflex. i feel and look (to me, but the kid tells me i'm not fat - i love that kid!) so bloaty. i'm hoping it's PMS kicking my butt, but it's only happened since i decided to work out again. i have to admit, bloaty is not an incentive for keeping up with the workout routine.

I will follow this thread with interest. I have slacked off for two weeks hoping to see a loss and haven't. I can see I am losing tone and I don't like that at all with bathing suit season almost upon us.

Crease - bloaty (funny word!) but I get this way (ironically) if I work out on an empty stomach. Many people do the opposite, but I think it has something to do with gastric secretions. If I am too hungry, after I workout I eat something (probably too quickly) and feel this way. Of course, you could be bloaty when you are building muscle because this causes fluid build up when lactic acid is in the muscles especially. You probably know this.

I'd like to follow this thread too. Although I am a huge advocate of exercise and already exercise daily, it's interesting seeing others progress with it....especially since our stats are so similar. I tried this experiment once in the beginning, but as the opposite - I started my weight loss journey with exercise and found taking it away made me stall and gain. But everyone is different. My weight loss was pretty steady like yours, until I hit the 150s, then things slowed way down. Plus, when I first started, my initial goal was 150, when I got closer to that I knew I had more to lose so I dropped it down to 135. I'm curious to see how quickly the next 20 pounds come off for you.

Marcia Mae...I didn't realize our stats were that similar. I think I too will not be content at 150. I used that as my goal weight because that is what the doctor thought I should be at. I am only 26 lbs away from that and to me it looks like I need to lose more.

I completed my second day of exercise. Yesterday I did 30 minutes on the treadmill. Today I only managed to finish 20. I was too tired..I couldn't fall asleep last night (tossed and turned), but I wanted to get at least some exercise in. Anyway, enough babbling 2 days down 10 weeks and 5 days to go!!

I think this would be an even more awesome study if, once you finish your 11 weeks of cardio, you switched to 11 weeks of just weight training (famous for being the best way to lose bodyfat) (and be sure and measure bodyfat and dimensions not just weight before that). Tracking this stuff is great, it's not only informative for you, but very interesting to others as well! Thanks! PJ

The only problem is as you lose weight your weight loss slows down, so it might be difficult to tell.

True. If it sped up then, then it would REALLY be something.

Watching this experiment of yours with great interest - thank you so much for posting and sharing it with us. It's a real curiosity - does exercise slow or stall weight loss or not?

Also - kinda curious about weight training as well. Geeze, I wish I were the type of person who'd keep better records. I'm not doing a ton of cardio, but more weight training, lost about five pounds in four weeks, but clothing is *much* looser than it was.

Good luck with this!!!
