Here on VI we have a monthly get-together for dinner and diet updates, etc. It's been really helpful to me to have that support with people who share the same WOL.

Maybe something for you guys to consider!

If I only go (to show to out of town guests) to the Falls, I love it, but as soon as I hit a commercial street, it feels just like any other tourist trap. However, as I think about it, that is really localized because I've been to the Catholic retreat centre and it is just nice, you don't even have to drive past the tourist traps. You do, however, have to drive over that bridge in St. Catherines which is just terrible in the dark in a sleet and snow storm with big trucks on either side of you in January!

I was saying "Let's keep this thread as our local LC group?? What do you think? We can post updates, events, etc.." Doesn't mean others arent welcome just means we can use this thread to post relevant local stuff such as events.

Whereabouts in BC are you? I've always wanted to visit Vancouver - much nicer than Toronto I'm sure. Why did you leave t.o?

Like I said, just over reacting after a rough couple of weeks.

Left Toronto to work with a church in Northern Coastal BC. Most beautiful place on earth but isolated. I'm in Vancouver right now, and going home the end of the week. I guess you would say the scenery in Van is nicer than TO but as far as the city itself goes, I guess it depends on what you are used to. I prefer Toronto but probably because I know it better. The other thing about Vancouver is the rule about freeways and big box stores so that you take forever to get anywhere once you hit the Vancouver city limits and if you want to go to Walmart or Home Depot or Costco you have to head across the city limits to Richmond or New Westminster or Burnaby.

And as for downtown, I guess it is simply that I know downtown TO so well that I get frustrated here. Must say, however, that UBC is a much nicer campus that UofT.

The chang centre (I think its called) at UBC was used in Kyle XY and The 4400 - it beautiful! but that's the only part of UBC I've seen... I'd like to visit Van soon.

Just try find a restaurant that is central to everybody and that some LC food!
Steakhouses are a safe bet!!!!
I make the reservation for 5:30pm because the "rush" starts at about 6pm...

Last week we had our own BBQ and that was great fun as well!

Best tip is, somebody (or maybe more than one) has to drive the process, get the note started, and follow up regular like in the threads. We set a thread up for each monthly "do", and link it from the last "do" thread so subscribers can find it easy-peasey... It's great.

Hey, Ethan...why don't you try setting up a new post with some evocative and eye-catching title, like, for instance:

Toronto August LC Get-Together, Lunch or Dinner?

That's what we do, monthly or thereabouts, and it seems to work for us out here in the west...and we've got a LOT fewer people than y'all do out there in T.O.

Good luck, and keep trying...sometimes it takes a little while to get some copacetic people together.

Hey there. I'm from the GTA too. although studying in waterloo at the moment.
Anyhow i thought i'd get around to being useful and tell you guys about some of my favorite LC restaurants downtown.
1) Best Shawarma Place - on yonge between bloor and wellesley. Go in and order the beef shawrama plate with just salad. absolute heaven i tells ya. (goin there tomorrow)

2) Georges BBQ. bloor n bathurst
3) Whole Foods - the salad counter and the meat boxes (best for quick lunches and they have shirataki noodles)
4) busters seafood - st lawrence mkt
5) the healthy greek - pork roast and greek salad
Surprising locations:
6) Future Bakery - bloor near bathurst
7) Duff's wings - wings are unbreaded and armageddon sauce has no sugar (i called and asked)
