Default The Air Force Diet

I'm looking for an online reference to "The Air Force Diet", or "The Royal Canadian Air Force Diet".

I've found some comments on it, and many mentions of it, but I remember reading it once, about a page of things you could eat and things to avoid.

Now most of my searches brings up the "Russian Air Force Diet" which is no where near the same thing.

Any links?

I think it was renamed 5BX. Here might be a link you are looking for. http://www.fit450.com/HTML/5BX_Intro.html

Here is more good info. http://www.gettingfitagain.com/5bx.php

In Atkins 72 he talks about it a couple of times.

It's a 60 carb (real, not net) lc diet.

He kind of scoffed at it as it doesn't get most people into ketosis.

Probably as a weight lost diet it isn't as good, but most normal weight people probably don't really need to be in ketosis all day and night to the point where ketones show up in the urine.

But a low-ish carb diet probably allows rapid and effective nocturnal ketosis, enough to trim an already lean person.

But I don't want it as a diet, I want it as a reference. There's an Air Force guy I know who keeps trying low fat to lose the same 30 pounds over and over and now has T2 as a result. For him, the Air Force Diet would be just a wedge into a more Atkins like diet.

I hope it wasn't the Atkins book I read that in, because he would want a second reference...

Oh wow, what a flash to my past! I remember my father (who has always struggled with his weight) having a copy of that book. I just remembered the pictures of the men and women, in uniform, doing the various exercises in the back of it.

:::smile::: thanks for triggering that memory -- it's a nice one!

Thanks, but I think that's just an exercise plan. I was looking for the diet plan.

The Air Force diet was published by the Canadian Air Force in 1960. Good luck on finding it.

You could go to Alibris and let them search it down for you. They will e-mail you when they find a copy, but they won't hold the book for you. You'll have to act quick when you hear from them, or the book may be sold to someone else. Just a suggestion!

Hey, Baerdric, check out this link (and read the list of articles):

old Reader's Digest magazine from 1965

I'm assuming you've read the Wikipedia entry? Reference 13 or 14...

Cool. I used to collect old diet books, specifically vintage LC. I have The Drinking Man's Diet Cookbook, and Martinis & Whipped Cream:The New Carbo-Cal Way to Lose Weight and Stay Slim, and a few others as well. I could swear I've at least seen the Air Force Diet pamphlet, it was a little thing, but can't find it now. It may well be that I didn't want to pay the asking price!

Good luck in your hunting!

Hey, That's great, but can you imagine selling an old readers digest for more than $7? I know I burned thousands of those things.

Smile Air Force Diet

My Mother gave me this about 20 years ago - I hope it's what you're looking for...
Air Force Diet - lose up to ten pounds in 3 days.
Day One:
Breakfast
Black coffee/tea
1/2 grapefruit
1 toast
2 tbsp. peanut butter

Lunch
1/2 cup tuna
1 toast

Supper
3 oz any kind of meat
1 cup string beans
1 cup beets
1 sm. apple
1 cup vanilla ice cream

Day Two:
Breakfast
Black coffe/tea
1 egg
1 toast
1/2 banana

Lunch
1 cup cottage cheese
5 saltine crackers

Supper
2 weiners
1 cup broccoli
1/2 cup carrots
1/2 banana
1/2 cup vanilla ice cream

Day Three:
Breakfast
Black coffee/tea
5 saltine crackers
1 slice cheddar cheese
1 sm. apple

Lunch
1 egg
1 toast

Supper
1 cup tuna
1 cup beets
1 cup cauliflower
1/2 cantaloupe
1/2 cup vanilla ice cream

This diet works on a chemical breakdown and is proven. Do not vary or substitute any of the foods. All spices, except salt and pepper, are disallowed. Where no quantity is given there are no restrictions, other than common sense. This diet is to be used 3 days at a time. In those 3 days you will have lost 10 pounds. After 3 days you can eat normally for 4 days, but don't overdo it. After the 4th day start back on the 3 day diet. You can lose 40 pounds in a month if you stick to it.

Be well

I've had this diet before but it wasn't called the Air Force Diet. Didn't work for me, but then nothing does but LC
