Exclamation Stress/high BG

I always thought stress induced high BG was BS.
I had a car accident today-my fault.
A huge pickup braked suddenly in front of me.
I clipped the guy's bumper from behind.
I exited my car with my drivers license and insurance
thingy in my hand. The other driver exited his vehicle with a
large caliber pistol in his hand, inspected his vehicle, flipped me
the bird and sped off. When I got back to work,I was feeling
really bad.My BG reading was 347.Until today,I havn't seen
a BG reading over 170 in 2 years.For me,today in Houston,Texas,
stress appeared to cause very high BG.I guess it's not BS.
Wow!
Eddie

That makes two of us!

Eddie, don't be surprised if you find that you wake up tomorrow with sore muscles and maybe (but hopefully not) higher than usual blood sugar readings.
Hope you're feeling somewhat calmer tonight!

Dang Eddie... 25 years ago a Texas State Senator wanted to legalize the carrying of handguns on Texas highways. I could just see it as I lived in Houston with the stop and go traffic on Katy Freeway... and the hundred degree weather... and an accident involving eight cars... and the drivers of those cars getting out with their guns drawn... it seemed like a bad idea then and it still seems like a bad idea... thank god you only got the one fingered peace sign...

That's terrible, Eddie. I hope that you're OK.

I've found that my blood sugar can go up incredibly fast when I'm suddenly very upset.

Thanks for the concern,friends.
Houston is a lot more dangerous than it used to be.
I'm fine and my pants are clean.
BG is still a bit high(115) but I'm sure we'll get back to normal tomorrow.
Cheers and goodnight
Eddie

Maybe, when I return home I should fly into a different city...

Eddie, I had my traumatic experience a couple of years ago. Stress affecting BG is real.... From my experience, if this can help you, try to remember this:

The incident happened to you once. Try not to relive it 100 times in your head, or the stress will relive itself that many times also. The woulda, shoulda, coulda thing, forget about it... You are safe, you didn't get a ticket and no matter what else woulda, shoulda, coulda happened, that guy will always be an A..hole...

Ron
I am in 100 percent agreement with you about the bad
effects of reliving/reviving bad moments.
Thanks for reminding me.

I know doctors dont recognise it but adrenal fatigue is real. I know I have led a stressful life and my cause of weight gain has been only because of stress.
now i try deep breathing and listening to calming music.

How do you guys deal with stress? Now that will be an interesting topic isnt it?

I deal with stress through physical activity. Trying to make myself sit still and be calm just seems to make it worse for me.

weightlifting at night. My wife wants me to check out Buddhism-
I may do that but I doubt it.

If I could do extreme excercise i would take that anyday verses meditation. But unfortunately for me I have a bit of adrenal fatigue so I cant do extreme stuff. But I do walk 2-3 miles a day and some weight training.

Flute music and sarong ( a type of indian instrument) music calms me down so well. I have also started to prevent negative thoughts by immediately force thinking about the positive aspects then if I want to get mad I will allow myself but not without thinking if it is worth it.

I had a habit of feeding negative thoughts to myself. then keeping it long enough to spiral it out of control. I remember a bad incident from when I was 6years old just imagine how much fuel I have given hatred.

Now when my parents visited me , I could see myself in them how I was last year. This one year of health complications has changed my life and a real wake up call. When you run high on stress you just distribute it to everyone near you. I can understand their upbringing and how difficult it was for them to even get food when they started out. So it has stressed them out completely that now they cannot enjoy what they have.

What you have is now. You cant change the past nor can you shape your future exactly the way you want without life throwing curve balls. Just accept life for all the things that can make you smile and go on with it..
