It depends on the kind of stress you are talking about. I don't think it is healthy to make yourself stressed out worrying unnecessarily about things.

The kind of challenging stress I find stimulating is healthy for me. We're all different.

BTW, I'm not being critical of your points of view. I responded to what Rob said in that some people do strive on stress.

Recently read a very good book that has helped me deal with
a lot of things.Best I can describe it is that it's sort of
like Buddhism from a Christian viewpoint.Very good destressing
technique. "The Essential Laws of Fearless Living" by Guy Finley.

Worrying about stress is getting me all stressed out.

Is that good? I mean, do they cancel each other?

Your mother's fault?

You should be celebrating that you're overweight.

As sad as it must sound, I do celebrate being in the overweight category... a step in the right direction anyway

Couple of years ago I had managed to get my weight down to
165 pounds but then I decided to add weight lifting to my exercise regimen.Result:I'm now back to 185 pounds.Muscle weighs more than fat.Since I enjoy weight lifting,I will continue. The whole BMI thing is absurd.Using BMI, Arnold Schwarsneggar is considered obese because he is so muscular and hence carries more weight.
And so it goes

Oh, just remembered I was reading up about cats and diabetes and they mentioned when your cat gets a blood test done his glucose would be elevated due to stress.

So I guess it isn't just diabetics. It's probably natural to help us flee to have some extra blood sugar to draw on.

Until I get in the "muscle bound" category, which I don't anticipate, I am gonna shoot for a BMI of 23 or 24...

Environmental Stress

This is a response to things around you that cause stress, such as noise, crowding, and pressure from work or family. Identifying these environmental stresses and learning to avoid them or deal with them will help lower your stress level.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stress of Family Pressure
One Way of Stress Avoidance

A gravely ill man went to the doctor with his wife. After the examination the physician motioned for the wife to meet him in the hallway. "Your husband is very sick", the doctor said, "but there are three things you can do to ensure his survival. First, fix him three healthful, delicious meals a day. Next, give him a stress-free environment, and don't complain about anything. Finally, make passionate love to him every day.

On the drive home the husband asked, "What did the doctor say?"

"I'm sorry, " the wife said, "but the Doctor said, you're not going to make it.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the AA program (Alcoholics Anonymous)

They have a Serenity Prayer and it is something like this:

God grant me the SERENITY to accept the things I cannot change; COURAGE to change the things I can; and WISDOM to know the difference.

Remembering that prayer, or the meaning of it would just about take care of any and all environmental stress………..

what a coincidence today I was thinking that stress increases cortisol increases insuline resistence and i see a post here. I have had a revalation these few days that all the problems I have had is because I worry tooooo much.

I started deep breathing and it definitely helps now if i could only go to the himalayas.

I've read that high cortisol increases blood sugar.

I've read that taking melatonin when going to bed at night reduces cortisol levels.

I've put the two things together to mean it is possible that might be one answer to the dawn phenomena, but I can't find any information that directly links using melatonin helps reduce blood sugar by controlling cortisol....

I've used melatonin in the past as a sleep aid and for that it does work. I don't have the dawn phenomena and I sleep well, so it would not do any good for me to experiment with it. Perhaps someone might and let us know....

By the way, melatonin is something produced in our brain and as we age, we produce less of it. Taking melatonin orally has no side effects, except drowsiness.....

Human growth hormone also contributes to DP, as well as epinephrine. Melatonin doesn't do thing a for mine.
