Default DIY Strawberry Smoothie

You can vary this, of course.
You can put in unsweetened koolaid, such as orange for a orangecicle type smoothie.

In a blender
3 eggs, raw (I do wash them) or liquid eggs
5 strawberries (I use the frozen whole, no sauce or anything)
½ cup of half and half. (a little less fat and calories than full cream, but still good)
And I put two packets of Stevia in it. Blend on liquify for about three minutes. You could do less if you thaw the strawberries, but it makes it more "shake-ish" to me.

One serving..

Default question...

So there is raw eggs in this... what is the mouth feel? Is it slimy, because milkshakes have a definite mouth feel and I just couldn't eat slime...

I make a berry shake every morning for me and the kid.
I use (per person, doubled for the two):

1/2 cup of plain yogurt
1/4 cup of cream or h&h
6 whole strawberries or 1/3 cup wild frozen blueberries
1 egg
1 spoon (not a whole scoop, about 1/4 scoop) of protein powder
1 tsp vanilla
some apple pie spice (cinnamon/nutmeg/cloves mix)
sweetzfree to taste (liquid splenda, zero carb)
4 ice cubes

comes out pretty thick. We love it.

Yogurt has some carbs, even totally plain full fat yogurt, about 6 per 1/2 cup (although some will argue most the carbs are eaten up by the yogurt process). Cream has carbs, and of course the berries have carbs. Depending on how I make it, sometimes it comes out pretty high carb, like 20 carbs per person. I'm not currently on a ketogenic plan really so it's not a big deal to me, but if I had to make it lower carb I would skip the cream and instead do the yogurt and some water.

The primary 'thickness' elements are the frozen berries and the ice cubes. I've found that whether I use cream, sour cream, yogurt, or half and half, or some mix of those, the main thickness element is the blended ice basically.

We sometimes make it and skip the berries (much of the carbs) and instead use just extracts of coconut, pineapple, and rum, for a pina colada.

I've been thinking about refrigerating some strong coffee, and making a coffee-cocoa version out of curiosity. A little vanilla and cinnamon and cream, it oughtta be yummy. Like a mocha frappe or something.

It's very similar to a milkshake, to me. It's not slimey though. That was a concern I had too. It feels "cleaner" to me than a Wendy's Frostie.

I have also, since putting this here, added an ounce of Avocado (for the add'l potassium) This make it so thick, you almost need a spoon. It's the same as above, except one less egg and add the ounce (about a half of a small avocado. I did weigh it). I think I'm using more strawberries too. It's in my plan.

I finally tried this today on my low gi day and it was really, really good..... I didn't freeze the strawberries but added ice and yogurt and it really hit the spot. Wasn't very hungry but knew I needed to get something down and it was perfect! Thanks a bunch!

I have made this for years....protein shake with eggs...but mine is a little bit different...

3 eggs
1 ounce cream cheese
1-2 pkgs splenda or other sweetener
vanilla
optional:
crushed ice....1/4 to 1/2 cup

and/or
3-4 strawberries
or
2-3 slices fresh peach

the options are endless!

small note-the heavy cream has less calories and fat and proteins and carbs....so.....may be a better choice!
plus cream would taste more like a milkshake, and cream cheese more like...well....creamcheese!!!! i usually have cream cheese on hand is why i like to use it!!!

I eat [drink] this for breakfast, lunch, and even dinner when i need a quick sub for a meal! i have eaten TONS and TONS of raw eggs with no ill effects....no kidding!!!! i mean TONS! HA!!!

If I were to add psyllium husk to the smoothie, would it bring down any net carb count? I've been wondering that for a bit. We used to love smoothies!

Fiber doesn't reduce the carbs already in there, it's just not counted as carbs.
