Default Spicy Sweetness

Chocolate has only been used as a sweet treat for a very short part of it's existance. It was once consumed as a spicy drink.

For some strange reason I was in the mood for something unusual tonight, and was remembering with fondness Dagoba's "Xocalatl" dark chocolate bar.

So I did a variation on the mock danish.

2 oz cream cheese
2 squares gardelli 100% cocoa
5 drops stevia
2 splenda packets
1 sweet and low packet
about 1/2 tablespoon cinnimon
1 tbsp hot cheyenne pepper
1 egg

Spices to taste of course. If you want it richer, leave out the egg.

This sounds fantastic! I've had a spicy chocolate dessert (non low-carb) when I was traveling in Europe once (I believe it was Ireland but I could be mistaken). The combo of heat with the chocolate was divine! I'll have to try this one for sure!

A full Tablespoon of that hot red ground Cayenne Pepper in a single "mock danish" variation?!?

Yikes. You must have a stronger constitution than I.

When I was a kid I refused to eat anything spicy. I couldn't even take something like a taco. Bread was white, meat was turkey breast, white cheese like mozza or provolone, ect. Then I got pregnant with my son. Now I can't seem to find anything that is spicy enough, at least not without sacrificing flavor. Some things seem to try too hard to be hot and there isn't any taste left outside of the spice. Seriously wish we had a Tai or Moroccan restaurant here.

Ok, I can't find the edit button, sooo....

"Edited to add: Cheyenne and other spices to taste"

I also have hungarian hot paprika. Wonder how that would taste in it. I think the low though was a couple nights ago when I was eating peanut butter with Harissa. They say cravings are sometimes a body's way of identifying nutrients you are lacking, so what in the heck does hot peppers have that I could be lacking?

Edit button disappears after some fixed period of time...and "they" also say that the burn is addictive in some way...something to do with pain at the sensors and endorphins (natural opiates) in the brain to compensate.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

You should microwave it for about 2 minutes (depending on your microwave - I do 1 1/2 minutes because my microwave is powerful).
