Judy,

I believe you are right on the money with what you are saying! I have viewed and even responded to some of those threads and speaking for myself, I found it triggered my cravings a bit!! Therefore, I've started passing on even opening such threads.

To be successful we must look forwards and not lust for what lies behind us or we will be drawn away. To paraphrase my favorite book, "Do NOT look back or you will become a pillar of salt"!

Good points...

Cissie

In my opinion there is no "right or wrong" in either side of this discussion, since it depends entirely on your personal "relationship" with carby stuff. Some of the people who were more of emotional eaters, or people with a history of eating disorders, are a fair amount more psychologically affected by triggers. Others find it easy to participate in those discussions, and that's wonderful.

It's not so black and white.

Heck, a lot of people, myself included, get triggered by visiting sites about food...PERIOD!

I find the more time I spend on the board in general, the more often I think about FOOD. I've seen other people mention they wouldn't think about food as much, but just reading about it makes them think about it, and think they should go try that new recipe or have a little snack...

Wanna hear something funny? I find satisfaction in watching the Food channel. Isn't that nuts? lol It's like I get a buzz from it especially when they are baking goodies. That was my weakness, the sweets! I guess it's just me cause years ago when they didn't have these shows on tv I recall getting off, if you will, on looking a recipe pictures in magazines and even baking myself. Somehow it was like therapy for me! I really don't understand it myself. I'd make all these treats up and feed everyone else but I never ate any of it. Maybe it was a form of control I was experiencing!? What is really weird is I tend to be more tempted to crave foods when they are talked about such as some of the cravings mentioned on some of the threads here.

We are all so different aren't we?

The other day, while I was pounding away on the treadmill at the gym, there were two TVs in front of me. One was tuned to the Food Channel--they were making some incredibly decadent muffins and cinnamon cake and sundaes--and the other one was tuned to a rerun of the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest--a line-up of people stuffing their faces (literally) with wieners and buns. The weekly calorie count for one contestant was 70,000.

How many light years on the treadmill would it take to burn that off?? Talk about eliminating all thought of food.

Default I started one of the threads also, but prefaced it with

stating not a full departure... or something like that. I never intended for it to be a pig fest. I had chili and a couple pieces of corn bread. Heavy on the meat.

I surely didn't have a heaping plate of nachos and ice cream with hot fudge sauce, which is btw, how I regained all my weight.

I see your point. Don't froth at the mouth over taboo items. Enjoy the pleasures of low carb foods.

But, I haven't exhibited the willpower to have a totally off meal and jump kick it into a low carb WOL. Others have much more determination and can pull it off. More power to them.

A thread is started in the War Zone (you know you're in the War Zone, right?) to complain about somone else's threads, and I'm the one who's being unsupportive?

As a side note, I just mention this because my doctor INSISTED I should try Weight Watchers. I just said 'No thanks been there, done that'. But at WW, we DID talk about stuff that we miss. I can think of at least 2 occasions when I described the europhoria I had licking the good stuff off the doritas. Maybe it's just me, but I can remember us all having a good laugh about it (maybe it was the orgasmic look on my face, talking about it!) *shrug*

Did you eat those nachos in a previous life WITH the ice cream and chocolate sauce? This from a woman who just ate spinach, oysters and turnips for lunch!

Well, the ice cream followed the nachos, if that's what you mean.

Talk about a binge. It would have been good in retrospect to place a mirror in front of myself. Maybe would have prevented it. Pathetic.

No "complaining" being done here. Just saying I am not sure it's the HEALTHIEST way to deal with giving those things up.

Those threads don't make me mad or aggravated in any way, it's just an observation on my part.

But, the reason I posted this in the war zone is because I knew it would rile some people up about it.

I feel kinda bad because I didn't want to come off like I was telling other people what to do, but when using the written word to communicate something to the reader, often the word "you" is used to really mean "nobody in particular" and that's what I meant. If anyone thought I was telling them what they should and shouldn't do, I apologize for that. If you go to those threads and don't get triggered by them, I think that's great.

No need to get nasty about it though.

My SIL refers to those shows (as well as any such cookbooks or magazines) as 'food porn'.
