Default Trying to do my own low carb...??

Hi guys...Atkins was just too severe for me...too much fat and no fruit. I couldn't hang..anyway... I know that lower carb is better for me. Are any of you doing low carb plan not based on all the fat in Atkins? I like low carb, lean protien with some fruit and veggies...Any suggestions? Thanks!

My problem was I couldn't stay away from certain foods and ended up craving and cheating to gain. I allow myself some fruit(like berries), peanut butter(just 1-2tbsps) and some other kinds of veggies that are not induction friendly to help me stay on plan. I am doing well doing this and loosing. Its all about finding what works for you. Good luck!

The g.i. diet or South Beach diet sounds like it's right up your alley, both support groups are on this site.

Best of luck

You are allowed both fruit and peanut butter on Atkins after the two weeks, and nowhere does it say you have to eat a lot of fatty meat! It recommends "good" fats, such as olive oils, real mayo etc....I eat lean meats such as chicken, fish, pork, beef, nuts, berries and melons regularily on Atkins.

anyway, good luck on your search - just thought I would clear up some "misconceptions"

you can try south beach, although i gained weight on it, atkin's allows plenty of varity for me, but you have to actually read the book and move into OWL to do atkin's properly.

Your title makes me think you want to do a non-regulatory LC diet, is this true? My mother in law swears by SB but I do my own thing.

I stick to eggs, meats (fish or chicken mostly), some nuts, sugarfree everything, no milk, I ONLY drink coffee or water, a good salad... I make sure to have LC snacks around and in my purse so if I do get hungry, I don't go to the vending machine.

NOTE ABOUT COFFEE: SOME PEOPLE STALL WITH CAFFEINE OR COFFEE OVERALL. I DON'T. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!

Oh, and if I do "cheat" it's eating whole grains. I love 1/2 cup of whole grain pasta with a little bit of pesto. YUMMY! Hummus with whole wheat pitas isa great "cheat" too. Just watch the serving sizes.

I am doing my own thing and it seems to be working so far. I've lost about 6 lbs. so far and it's only been about 3 weeks. I go along with Aprils0909. I like to have my whole grains from time to time. It helps to keep things moving for me. I do try to stay away from refined sugar and things like that but I will have a couple slices of my low-carb whole grain bread a couple of times during the week.

I found several great eating plans on the annecollins.com website. I am doing her low carb diet, but it allows for more grains and fruit which I really like. She also has a low GI diet. I have lost almost 13 pounds in 3 weeks. But,I am also exercising 30 minutes a day. Annes plan has kept me feeling satisfied, but not weighed down.

CONGRATS ON YOUR WEIGHTLOSS

Great to hear that you're an "entrepeneur" in the LC world as well! I am a label reader like crazy. I also check out what I ate or will eat via a carb/calorie count website. Starbucks is the worst! Milk is bad news. OK, I drink black coffee, no biggie. I saw this multigrain bread twist thing and ate 1/2 of it thinking I was cheating but not. Turns out my husband ate less carbs consuming a honey glazed donut! I almost fell over. I research BEFORE I go out now, if I know the destination. Most restaurants' websites offer a glimpse of the menu. Then I go to calorie-king.com and research and have 2 options (just in case one is not available).

I don't follow any plan... my husband ahs type 1 diabetes so we have reduced and monitor carb intake.. I have had anywhere from 58 to 105 grams of a carbs a day in the last week and have lost 2 pounds... I have lost an avg. of 2 lbs a week since the end of Oct. and I aim for 100 grams of a carbs a day on avg. for energy.. I am down 38 pounds... and I eat way more carbs then most people on here. I exercise.. stationary bike 3 to 4 times a week too.

Wow, congratulations! Welcome to the renegade LC thread LCing does work as long as you're consistent. It's great that you're so disciplined that you don't need to subscribe to any one particular diet. I am disciplined most of the time... then Thursday comes, date night.

Hello there! I too eat anywhere from 30-100 g of carb a day, mostly through fruit, yogurt and veggies. I used to do Atkins, which did work for me, I just missed the fruits and yogurt. Then tried a whole foods plan, but I ate a whole lot of food, so that didn't work too well. I began a Low GI eating plan through Anne Collins website, I exercise 4-5 times a week, and have been losing about 3.5 pounds a week since December 29th, down over 20 pounds. I was so scared of getting the "carb cravings" by increasing my carbs over 20, but it has been working out great. I think the key for me is consistency!
