Apparently in north America you can get shiratake noodles with soya added which feel more like 'real' noodles .

update to my previous posts on this thread.

I've now tried the very thin ones in soup (they were ok the first day and much better today they did pick up more flavour). I thought I had seaweed variety but it turns out they were made with yam. Still listed as zero calories and less than one carb for 1/7 of a pack. I still have one pack of the tofu fettucine to try. You were all right - no braveness required

Hi Julia333,

They are ok for induction. It is only 1 Net Carb per serving and 1 whole package is two servings. The bag is small so you will most likely eat the whole thing as it isn't much and besides it would only total to 2 Net Carbs which is very safe for induction.

Default Konjac, Shirataki, Konnyaku and Tofu Shirataki

Aloha Ya'll,

As far as I understand and have experienced, konjac, shirataki and konnyaku pretty much are the same thing. Tofu shirtaki is made with tofu.

Konnyaku actually comes in cakes and noodles here in Hawaii. Some have nori seaweed in them, some are whitish in color. Since lime is required to make this, I think sometimes that the "fishy" odor comes from the lime. I have not had any problems with the odor coming across as a taste when cooking either the white or the nori konnyaku.

I've used Konnyaku/shirataki in making thai coconut soup and stir fries. They remind me of mung bean noodles. I enjoy the addition to the WOE very much and recommend them to anyone willing to try something new. They cut up real easy into smaller pieces and don't require much cooking at all.

This is the one LC product that I can get cheaper than many can on the mainland/continental US/Flat Rate shipping zone. What I don't have access to are the soya konnyaku, they sound like they would be good. We also don't have the konjac noodles in the various shapes (at least on my island). I would consider ordering these for the orzo shape and the tapioca shape. I think it would be worth the extra $$ plus they come out to about $2.00 a pkg. Not bad.

If you haven't tried shirataki noodles before I recommend starting with just half of that small package. These things are incredibly filling, they are so full of fiber. The first time I ate them I only had 1/2 of the bag and in a short time I was so very full I couldn't even think about food until the next day. They are a great additon to the lc life.

Excellent point to make. Depending upon what I'm preparing, I have even used 1/3 package, particularly if I'm making a single serving of oriental type soups.

Making stir fry for DH and myself, 1 package makes plenty for each one of us a serving.

Ok...I made soup last night with shirataki noodles and it was good. This is what I did. I had two cooked chicken breast which I diced up...added a large container of low sodium chicken broth in a pot, added chopped onion and celery, cracked black pepper and the noodles...it was ready in 15 mins and was very good. The noodles don't really taste like pasta..they are a bit rubbery...BUT they were really pretty good! I will definately use them again!

CooknCajun, what do you do with the Konnyaku cakes? I just went to a big Korean market in the city, and along with the noodles (99 cents a bag!!), they had the cakes, too. Suggestions???

Tapioca with no carbs? Are you sure? How can that be? What is the serving size? I would love to make some lc tapioca pudding! I'm kind of worried that there might be hidden carbs, though. Could you post the nutrition info, or run it through the Hidden Carb Calculator, just to double check? I'd sure appreciate it if you would. Thanks!
