I have to admit I haven't yet... but I have discovered the Kebab without the pita bread.

A lot of places do Kebabs on a plate. Talk about YUMMY!!!!!

I used to teach marketing at a university down in Victoria, and one of the fun exercises we used to do, was going to fast food outlets and asking for unusual requests. We would do "Mc Donalds with no packaging" (student would bring a plate) OMG that one was funny. KFC with no batter. You get the general idea. We never tried McDs without a bun, but to be honest, my fav part of McD's is the cheeseburger bun - and without it I just don't think it would be the same. Speaking of McD's I am so weak willed - I am desparate to try their Monster Sundae - I am sure it is sickenly sweet - but I want it so bad.

Hey Reymi Nice to meet ya.

Dr Atkins mentions a couple of times in his book about eating cheeseburgers with no bun - I was thinking of going into McDonald's (after induction) and ordering a quarter pounder and then removing the bun myself - might get a few looks, but could be kinda funny. I really like quarter pounders ... although surely there is sugar in the ketchup. I wonder if Dr A intended we eat the ketchup?? Hmmm. Can't imagine a burger without the ketchup, but then again it might be different without the bun - might not need the ketchup so much.

Fortunately I haven't had any cravings for sweet stuff ... actually I haven't really craved anything - this could only because I'm getting fat from cheese and stuff like that, and the carbs have gone out of my system ... I did have caffeine/sugar withdrawal headaches for about 4 days though!

Hello

YOu can check out the carbs if you go to the Hungry Jack's website (aka Burger King - burgerking.com) or the McDonalds website (again try the american one, they tend to have more information) about how many carbs a burger has. They have a pretty good nutritional breakdown of everything, calories, fat etc.

I love whoppers with cheese and checked out that I can have one w/o bun and ketchup (from memory this is 4 carbs) all for around 4 carbs all up!!

Worth looking into beforehand before you eat one and realise that you threw away carbs without knowing!!

Speak soon!!

Cool I did it today!

I actually tried that today!
I ordered a Quarter Pounder with cheese without the pickle or any sauce. (This is through the drive-thru)
I then picked off the buns and ate the paddy cheese and onion!

It was very nice!

Next time I think I will order the same, but ask for an extra paddy of meat!

Yup yup. The other day I needed a really quick lunch during a busy day at work - I ducked out to Hungry Jack's and ordered two cheeseburgers with bacon and then took them back to the office and ate them minus bun. So yummy to have "junk" food!

I've actually gone to McDonalds and ordered a McOz burger and a knife and fork. They have them for the Hot cakes. I have never tried ordering the burger without the bun though, I have read of someone doing that. They just used one of the breakfast packaging to serve it on.

My DH can't believe that I can eat 2 McOz sans buns and still lose weight.

gotta love that food on the run thing.

I keep a plastic knife and fork in the car for such occasions - no bun is a messy business

Default Burgers W/O Buns

Hi new to OZ from San Diego, CA, USA. Used to order burgers all the time and just eat the meat. Interestingly due to the desires of most Californians to eat healtier one burger chain in CA "In-N-Out" will actually serve you a lo-carb burger. What they do is wrap the burger in whole large iceburge lettuce leaves instead of giving you a bun. That way you can still eat it like a sandwich and have wayyyyyyyyyyyy fewer carbs. So we can try to start asking chains here if they're willing to do it or just slip some leaves in your lunch bag before you head out! Just DON'T ORDER FRIES!!!

By the way why does KFC here give you FRIES (CHIPS) and smashed potatoes?????

You can order just the burger patty at hungry jacks or maccas. Maccas charge $1.20 for the quarter pounder patty and something like 95c for the smaller ones. Hungry Jacks, from memory charges $1.50 for the bigger patty, can't remember the price for the smaller one.

I sometimes get the garden salad and 2 large patties from maccas. Works out quite well. They'll run around for a while after you ask them for the patties without the buns. Do we serve this? Do you want it cooked? What can we serve it to you in? Kinda comical to watch them running around the place

He he - you silly 'merican - those spuds aren't smashed, they're MASHED!! LOL And they give you both so you can dip the fries into the mashed spuds ......

McDonlads are pretty good with weird requests. When we are on the road we get the 'Big Breakfast', but dont have the muffin or the hash brown. They let you swap the muffin & hash brown to more egg or another meat patty thingie.

Default Ahhhh the Luxuries of Fast Food...

It's nice to know that Macca's (we always called it Mickey Ds) is willing to run around and make changes to breakfast or sell you a burger patty for less. I'll remember that next time I go out for "brekkie" is that right? But I thought Ozzie's called mashed potatoes "smashies" Or is that just KFC here????

my teenage daughter eats her Hamburgers by pulling it all apart and eating it a bit at a time and eats the bun last. I would always be telling her off for doing it.

Now I eat my hamburgers like that And she tells me off.

Hmmm - now you have me wondering Sometimes different states have different slang, like a pot of beer vs a schooner. I've never heard mashed spuds called smashies though
