Personally I like to use any cheese. i just went to a Tupperware party yesterday and the lady made nacho dip using one of her new steamers. Anyways, you cook hamburger in the microwave, take it out, pour in shredded cheese and then nuke it more than you mix in a can of salsa. I eat it with a fork or then I eat it with celery sticks.

I'm glad you started this thread because I was going to ask about it anyway. You must have been reading my mind.

The only brand I had heard of was by "Specialty Cheeses" Just the Cheese™ brand Frying Cheese™

Does anyone know of other brands so that I will be able to "target" them when I go shopping?

I'm guessing it's not the panela, but the Anejo Enchilado
A firm, pressed cheese rolled in paprika. This cheese is not as strongly flavored as Cotija but can be easily shredded or grated. It is commonly used as a topping or stuffing for enchiladas, burritos, and tacos.

I don't think that's a frying cheese... but, what do I know, I''m just checking this out too.

I've tried frying cheddar and love them as a savory snack, but sometime I would love something sweet. Are any of these cheeses mild enough to fry and then sprinkle with splenda and cinnamon kind of like a crispy sweet cracker? Can you "fry" cream cheese"?

Hi there... I'm the one that started this thread.... golly, I love this forum!! So many ideas of cheeses to try yet!!! Thank you!!! The only two I personally know so far to be NON MELTING, when pan fried, are the Queso Blanco (haven't found this at the stores here yet) and the Queso Panela ... the latter one, we are now on our third package of.... finally found something LC that even Poor Ray loves!!! I will be trying many of the suggestions below as well, after another run to the grocery store.... but at the moment, I personally vouch for the Queso Panela.... NOTE: This is DIFFERENT than making the delicious cheese crisps in the microwave....

OK, why do I find myself compelled to post on every cheese-related thread?
This should, by itsself, be the clear indicator of a problem.
But anyway...

There's a special kind of "frying cheese"? This I did not know. I have heard of Queso Panela, though. If the cheese doesn't melt do you have to add extra oil?

Has swiss been mentioned? The chicken shop around here fries swiss cheese for their chicken burgers.

In reply to BBDoll question.... no, you do NOT have to add extra oil to FRY the Queso Panela.... I do lightly spray the griddle before warming it though... I do that with everything.... have to go to store today to get ANOTHER package!! Will also buy a couple of different kinds of cheese suggested by others that posted on this thread....
