Default Easy Pasta.. why didnt i think of this b4?

Oh my gosh this is the best idea and I dont know how I havent thought of this before. It's the easiest and most delicious pasta substitution!

I used the Low Carb tortillas at Costco. I forget the brand. Anyway:

Makes one serving:

1 LC Tortilla (Costco brand)
Your fav pasta sauce
Your fav toppings

Take the tortilla and cut into 1/4" strips (scissors are easiest). Put them into a bowl & fill with water (make sure they are submersed). Nuke in microwave for 1 min on high. Drain off water and voila! Instant pasta! Drizzle with olive oil or marinara or alfredo or whatever. Put on your fav toppings. If your pasta sauce is cold you can always pop it back in microwave for a few seconds.

This is seriously easy and really tastes like pasta to me. Yummers.

Brilliant idea!

As much as I like and do not have a problem with the Dreamfields spaghetti noodles, I find them to be too thick for me - we're used to the angel hair pasta around here. I'm definitely going to try this the next time we have spaghetti night!

Ya know...when I make regular lasagna for my family, I make a smaller LC version for myself using the LaTortilla brand tortillas - I cut them into wide strips using an old-fashioned pasty cutter (gives them that curly edge - just like regular lasagna noodles). So why didn't *I* think of subbing in strips of LC tortillas made YOUR way before......

Exactly Ellen! I used tortillas in my lasagna the other day and that gave me the idea. OOOOooo I love the idea of the pastry cutter! Gotta try that one!

What a great idea! That sounds yummy. I'm going to try that after Induction.
Thanks for the recipe

I made this again, and made some adjustments.

First, my tortillas are pretty soft as it is, so I think nuking them first was overkill. I just cut the strips, put 2 T of alfredo sauce & .25 C of sun-dried tomatoes and then nuked them. The sauce had enough moisture to soften to the right consistency.

Second, I found an easier way to cut them into strips. Roll them up and cut them like pinwheels, and then unroll them once they are cut. Real easy.

I am going to post a picture.

Okay....now I DEFINITELY will be trying that (after looking at those pics)!! I like the idea of nuking everything together in one bowl, too!

Wow, looks pretty authentic! Not exactly my original image of Doritos with Alfredo sauce. LOL

I'm gonna try this.

I never knew people used tortilla for lasagna. I've been making it without the pasta--just a platter of meat, sauce, and cheese.

Good work, UZ! That rolling into a roll and slicing I think is called "Chiffonade". I ran into "chiffonade mint" in a recipe and had to call a foody friend to find out what the heck it meant.

This is SO GOOD!!! Maybe 3 min from start to finish.... and a hot bowl of "pasta".... I sprinkled frozen cooked ground beef on the top before nuking, along with the Carb Option Spagetti Sauce... then sprinkled with parmesean cheese... this is going to be a weekly staple to my meals.... cut my LC tortilla into thinner strips.... even gives you that "slurp" effect like real spagetti....

I agree. This was REALLY good. I tried it for dinner tonight. I used alfredo sauce, prosciutto and broccoli, tossed w/the dry *noodles*, nuked for 1.5 minutes and topped w/fresh chopped tomato and grated parmesan. I could NOT tell it was a tortilla.. and it made a large portion.

Thanks UZ, will be making this often. (already planning on making my favorite cold noodles w/peanut sauce next week )

Hm, gonna try and make it tonight.

Figure I'll just pick up the stuff from the supermarket after the gym. I'd imagine they'd have LC Tortillas.

We'll see.

That turned out pretty good. Will make it again, as well as try it lasagna style.

This might be a wee bit off of the original recipe in this thread, but I found a sort of substitute for pasta that I like. I make a meaty, cheesy, chunky vegetable sauce, and arrange it over (get this) a couple of cans of (stupid low carb) wax beans! Parm cheese and any other lasagna style ingredients baked with a top of mozzarella in the oven 'til bubbly and browned a bit on top. The colour and shape of the wax beans fools the eye into thinking that it's pasta. And since they have no really strong flavour, they just blend into your pretend pasta casserole. Low carb dream! It works for me!

Edited to add: My eating plans will not allow starches at all in a meal with fats or proteins, so I had to pick an inert vegetable!
