Default Hayfever and Asthma Associated With Irregular Menses

Now since hemochromatosis / erythrocytosis .. has one symptom
which is prevalent .. irregular menses .. and since asthma is
treated successfully in MANY patients .. with theophylline ..
and since theophylline is used to TREAT .. erythrocytosis ..
one wonders whether theophylline IN asthma is .. simply ..
treating .. erythrocytosis .. ?
---------------------------------------------------------
Hayfever and Asthma Associated With Irregular Menses Those of
you who have always felt your hormone levels were affecting
your allergies will be interested in a study published in the
June 2005 issue of Thorax. This study of Northern European
women aged 25 - 54 associates hayfever and asthma with
irregular menstrual cycles. The survey was conducted by using
questionnaires delivered by mail. The first part of the
questionnaire contained questions which covered respiratory
symptoms, current asthma medication, and current hay fever.
The second part of the questionnaire covered various aspects
including hormonal status in women.

After excluding women who were menopausal, pregnant, taking
oral contraceptives, or hormone replacement therapy, the final
results involved 6,137 women.

According to the study:

The prevalence of irregular menstruation was 23 percent (15
percent in ages 25 - 42, 37 percent in ages 43 - 54).

The prevalence of asthma and allergy was higher in women with
irregular menstrual periods than in those with regular
menstruation in the age group 25-42 years.

Irregular menstruation was significantly associated with
increased risk for asthma, asthma symptoms, and hay fever. The
associations were particularly strong for asthma or wheeze
preceded by hay fever.

The only "one" who wonders is you. It is an easy matter to
diagnose both disorders, and there has been no demonstrated
correlation between these disorders and asthma, aside from
random musings.

That is very .. good ..

So what you are saying .. is .. even THOUGH .. asthma patients
GET .. hypoxic .. and EVEN THOUGH .. hypoxia .. RESULTS .. in
.. increased blood cell mass / polycythemia / erythrocytosis
.. there is NO ..'demonstrated' .. increased blood cell mass
.. IN .. asthma ..

Hmm ..

Then that would be .. another .. paradox ..

Eh ..

For sure .. man ..

Am J Med. 1983 Mar;74(3):415-20. Related Articles, Links

Improved exercise tolerance of the polycythemic lung patient
following phlebotomy.

Chetty KG, Brown SE, Light RW.

The present study evaluated the effects of therapeutic
phlebotomy on the exercise tolerance and the maximal carbon
dioxide output of polycythemic patients with chronic
obstructive pulmonary disease. Fifteen maximal exercise
studies were performed before and after phlebotomy in
patients with moderate to severe chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease (mean forced expiratory volume in one
second [FEV1]= 970 ml). After phlebotomy there were no
significant differences in pulmonary function, blood gases,
oxygen consumption, or carbon dioxide production at rest.
However, after phlebotomy there was a significant increase in
the exercise tolerance of the patients. The mean workload,
the duration of exercise, the maximal oxygen consumption, the
maximal carbon dioxide production, and the ventilation at
maximal exercise all increased significantly. The improved
exercise tolerance after phlebotomy appeared due to an
increased cardiac output generated mainly through an
increased stroke volume. We hypothesize that the increased
stroke volume was due to a higher ejection fraction of the
right ventricle secondary to a lower pulmonary artery
pressure. This study provides further evidence that patients
with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease who have
polycythemia benefit by therapeutic interventions that
maintain their hematocrits below 55 percent.

Yep, for those with both polycythemia and copd. Phlebotomy is
also indicated for polycythemia alone. The common denominator
is polycythemia, not copd.

Did you miss the part about hormones being the commonality?
You still haven't established causality. Eh, indeed.

????

You didn't .. really .. say a whole helluva .. lot ..

Asthma accompanies . .. copd .. in .. Ethiopians ..

Polycythemia is COMMON .. in .. copd .. and is treated with ..
theophylline ..

Hypoxia .. anoxia .. PRODUCES .. erythrocytosis / polycythemia
.. and in asthmatics it ALSO .. produces .. increased blood
cell mass .. 'supposedly' .. caused BY the 'lack' of oxygen ..
and therefore upregulation of red blood cells to carry oxygen.

Chicken or egg .. I say the increased red blood cells CAUSES
.. asthma .. just like in altitude sickness .. and 'they' ..
say .. the other way round .. the asthma CAUSES the increased
red blood cell mass / erythrocytosis ..

The erythrocytosis IS .. there .. and theophylline .. IS ..
used .. but 'they' .. say .. NOT .. for .. THE erythrocytosis
COMMONLY found in hypoxic / anoxic .. patients .. ??

Yea.. for sure .. man ..

Lots of studies .. done ..

I have access to JUST .. as .. many ..

And since .. I .. seem to be having .. more success than ..
ANYONE IN HISTORY .. I .. would assume then .. I .. have MUCH
better .. 'abilities' .. TO .. discern / ascertain .. WHAT ..
the study .. ACTUALLY .. means ..

Logic ..

Asthma is KNOWN to .. produce .. erythrocytosis .. increased
red blood cell mass .. THE SAME AS COPD .. and
'coincidentally' .. BOTH .. are 'treated' .. WITH ..
theophylline ..

In one .. polycythemia .. FOR .. erythrocytosis .. BUT .. in
.. asthma .=2E "we are not really sure .. why .. " ..

Well I'll .. assume .. erythrocytosis ..

Arterial O2 saturation =96 > 92%, ensures that findings
aren=92t from secondary polycythemia (e.g. COPD, asthma)

If you have hayfever AND asthma, there is a good chance that
you have Hidden Food Allergies (allergies that can't be
detected by conventional allergy test).

"They" know science and have performed the studies. You have
your causality backwards, that's all.

Well there it is. You are the supreme arbiter, and apparently
the supreme being. I notice that you mention your son in your

Could asthma be treated by having the person give up
consuming dairy (& cow's milk) products?
