Default I'm Stalled - I Think

It is almost four weeks since I started Atkins, and I have only lost 14 lbs... the first 12 lbs. were in the first two weeks. I should probably cut out sunflower seeds and Atkins Advantage bars, but I NEED something to snack on, especially at night. Other than the nuts and bars, I have been faithful to the diet. I do not like pork rinds. I always need something sweet after supper. Here's my usual daily menu:

B - 2 eggs (sometimes 2 sl bacon) or Atkins choc.shake, 1 c decaf coffee with 1 tsp creamer (I count as 1 carb), or green tea with Splenda

L - 1 can tuna or some meat leftovers, always with 1 c boston lettuce
Snack - 1 Atkins Adv. bar

D - steak, fish, pork or hamburg. with 1 c lettuce

Snack - sometimes wh.cream with a little Splenda & cocoa OR 1/4 c nuts (sunflower seeds or almonds)

10-12 glasses of water daily & supplements, Exercise 2-3x/wk at Curves

H E L P Thanks !

Cathy

Instead of eating the bars, why don't you increase your veggie intake? I see you are only having 2 cups of lettuce most days. You could have a large salad with tomato and cucumber and green pepper, a little onion, olives, hard boiled eggs, bacon crumbles, and lots of dressing along with your meat and you would be full and not need to snack at night.

If you "need" something sweet to snack on at night you might need L-Glutamine and or chromium piccolinate supplements. Kills cravings dead.

Beth

The bars are probably not helping with the weight loss.

When you use bars and shakes you are turning this into a diet. Eat food. Instead of a shake eat a veggie like asparagus or sliced raw bell pepper. Pack those nutrients into your diet while keeping carbs low by adding some strawberries or raspberries. The variety will help keep you from falling victim to boredom. Make sure that you are measuring because that tells you the real loss. Scales are not reliable. When you do use the scale make sure that it is first thing in the morning after going to the potty. Weigh with no clothes on. Great job attending Curves!!!!

I just wanted to add that it is very normal for people to stop losing around this time. Tends to be refered to the post induction stall. Your body is readjusting to the earlier lost. But while the scale may not be moving, a lot of people find that they are instead losing inches. An even better deal. Just keep on going and give it more time.

I say just keep going..the previous poster is right, this is a time when many stall for a bit...you should start losing again soon!...as others have mentioned, however, the shakes and the bars stall many people...try to stay as unprocessed in your diet as possible...

Sounds like the common post-induction "stall". I went nearly 3 weeks after induction before the weight started dropping again. Wasn't really a stall since I continued to lose inches. But give it a little longer and see if you're also experiencing this common post-induction result.

I agree with the other poster about not using the shakes or "LC" bars. Try to eat the foods detailed in DANDR, and try to get enough fiber. As far as wanting something sweet after dinner, why not have a look at the LC desserts in the recipe section here:

http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=41

I bet that you'll find something that will satisfy you. Stick with it, and you'll see results. Weekly weight loss varies, so just hang in there.

Success!

Thank you, all of you have great suggestions. You are right about the bars. I lean on them too much for a quick, sweet snack, like a candy bar, which won't teach me better habits. I will replace with your suggestions, although it will be HARD, but if all of you can do it, so can I

Hi,

Man, can I relate to that craving for a "little something sweet" at the end of the day, even though my carb-cravings seemed to be, otherwise, under control.

As the previous contributor mentioned, L-glutamine as a REAL help. Also, a lot of people have found that a serving of sugar-free Jello helps. And I have read more than one post that suggests a 'root beer float' to quell the anxiety of POSSIBLY being deprived (blend diet root beer, crushed ice, MAYBE a bit of Splenda, and a little heavy whipping cream). Check the recipe section of this forum. There are TONS of ideas to help.

Good luck and keep us posted of your progress--- you are already doing a GREAT JOT.

Hi spinal,

Depending on your portion size maybe cut back a bit on protein and increase fats which might lead to an overall more satisfied feeling w/ less cravings for snacks. Too much protien (I've read that >50gm in NHE) per meal or per day *can* be turned into glucose by your body and cause an insulin surge which would lead to cravings a bit after that. If your protein protions are on the high side, the added 20-25gms of protein from the bars and shakes might be putting you 'over the top'; another reason to avoid them. I find sf jello does a good job of for my 'mouth'craving for a sweet, but my body is NOT fooled so I usually take some l-gluatamine too. BTW, 14 lbs in 1 month is AWESOME! Keep up the good work, stay on plan and you can't help but be a winner (or-er- loser?).

Hi SpinalCord, I went 2 weeks with only 1/2 loss, then I started searching the forum. Some recommended taking
L-Carnitine...just the plain one, and I started lossing again with an average of 1/2 a day! One day this week, it stayed the same. I don't know if this is the true reason that I am lossing again, but I am going to continue taking them. I also take Calcium Magnesium and Zinc all in one. I also eat LC bars about 2 times a week.

a helpful suggestion that has helped me since I lived on the induction for 1 year. I added a lil microbotics to my diet, eat your 20 grams of carbs in Raw Green Veggies (Brocholli, Baby Spinach, Arugula) and dont forget the Cauliflower. Lay the bars aside I love Atkins and all but just because it says Atkins doesnt mean your body will like it. Cut back on the nuts and seeds they play a role in some peoples stalls. I stalled for two months after reaching 220lbs I finally broke it by changing my eating habits..your body gets adjusted wake it up with change. Definetly excercise, pump it up with good high tempo music...definetly visualize cause it will get you through this "body adjustment". See you at the finishing line.
