Chips and salsa. Honestly, I could go to a mexican restaurant and skip the entree - just push the basket of chips over my way and keep the salsa coming...

For me it was PASTA. As a family we would eat pasta 3-4X a week and at dinner time I would sometimes have two large bowls full ... add sauce, meat, cheese...wow...talk about fat, calories and CARBS!

Definitely PASTA. I would eat a huge bowl w/ sauce & no meat after I'd get back from running or working out. I thought since it was low fat too I'd lose weight. Wish I knew then what I know now!!! Plus it was cheap & i had just moved out on my own. Now I stay away. Maybe once every 3-4 months. I don't miss it at all!!!

I was looking for a fast-food option!

My boyfriend and I used to go out to eat EVERDAY we saw each other (maybe 2-3 times a day) and we saw each other about four times a week.

We ate at McDonalds, Buger King, Arby's, Taco Bell.. you name it. I think I gained 50 pounds over ONE summer! I hated myself.

We decided that next winter to not eat fast food EVER again - unless it was Subway (I wasn't doing Atkins then, so those 6g fat subs were pretty tasty)

I didn't eat fast food for over a year, then caved when I got a job. Up some more weight.

weekends were my downfall. i would eat ok during the week (high carb but not too extreme) but come saturday morning, off to the asian market i would go. laksas, rendang stuffed rotis, samosas, spring rolls, stuffed chicken wings, spicy fried noodles... enough food for at least four. and i would bring it all home and sit down and plough through it all. of course by saturday afternoon (after sleeping off my gluttony) i would need sweet stuff or some take away.

sunday would be pretty much the same (curse the wonderful saturday and sunday markets in this town! i still go but now all i do is take in the heady aromas and buy only some rendang and a chilli egg).

ugh! i can't believe how much food i would put away on the weekends.

Coca Cola and potato chips. I could come home from work (or school, way back when) and eat an entire bag of potato chips (not the single serving size bag, either!) and down a couple of cans of coke. Multiply that a couple of times a week over 20 years and it sure adds up!

Perhaps I should have included the ability to choose multiple foods, but the point of the survey was to find which ONE food item you feel most contributed. Thanks everyone!

I put down candy but it was more under the general heading of sweets for me (candy, chololate, baked goods, you get the idea :P) . I am now proud of myself that I have pretty much tapered my sweet tooth with this WOL. I only occassionally have some LC chocolate and I'm able to leave part of the LC chocolate bar or eat only one toffee square and that satisfies my sweet craving. The past week has been major stress for me and I'm a total emotional eater but I've been trying to stick to the lower carb fruit (strawberries and melon) for sweet treats.

Potatoes! They seemed like the perfect food for low-fat dieting, I'd fry some Potatoes O'Brien in no-fat cooking spray and then dump loads of ketchup on them. I'd eat a baked potato with broccoli and "butter spray" almost every single day. I would bake my fries in the toaster oven. And with all of that, I thought I was being healthy and would lose weight - sometimes I'd just eat potatoes for dinner, no other veggies, no meat. Sigh.

I was a cereal freak.. cereal cereal cereal.. with a over the road trucker.. I didnt have to cook and most of the time I didnt.. when I got hungry.. which usually was around 11pm or midnite.. I would go get a bowl.. which usually was the form of a old margarine tub... and fill 'er up..and laden it down w/ sugar and milk.

And then wake up hungry.. so would have to start my day with some ..........cereal!
