Question Anyone else deal with hair loss?...

Everytime I am doing really well on Atkins and not cheating, I start loosing a lot of hair. I started taking prenatal vitamins that do help, but I am still loosing more than I should. Any experience or ideas? THANK YOU!

Yes I did have hair loss about 5 months after starting Atkins and having lost about 35 pounds. I started using Rogain and the doctor said it would start growing back when I started to slow down the weight loss, which happened. I don't know if it was the weight coming off slower or the Rogain. There isn't as much as before losing weight but some did come back.

Hello! I've been reading some interesting threads/polls on the hair loss question, but I thought I would respond here. (You may want to check out the following: http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthre...light=hair+loss)

I can't remember experiencing a problem with hair loss the last time I followed the Atkins plan (almost a year ago). But I recommitted to the low-carb lifestyle in mid-April of this year. Now, about two months into this way of eating, I'm noticing a lot more strands of hair--in my bathtub, comb, and brush--than I'm used to seeing. My hair is already thin and fine, so I don't like the idea of losing any more of it. On the other hand, my hair does seem to be growing longer and more quickly now, and I can see new growth at the hairline. And my hair is softer and shinier, too.

Another interesting note: my eyelashes (which have always been thin and rather sparse) are really starting to grow long and fill in. My fingernails are growing quickly now, too, and have never been stronger. I'm naturally consuming more protein following this eating plan, and I've added hair vitamins to my daily supplements, so I'm starting to see some positive results.

Blessings, Anicka65

Default Hi Krystal

How tall are you?

How many calories are you consuming a day?

How often do you exercise and for what duration?

You look thin in your picture ..I know you struggle with eating disorder issues as I have.

I am wondering if hormones, or metabolism, or calorie intake might be issues here with the hair loss.

Hope you find some answers!

Deshukel

Default Not sure if that's it or not...

I'm 5' 3" and I weight 132 and wear a size 7 pants. So I'm not too thin but I do agree that calorie intake might be the problem. I stopped loosing weight with Atkins so I started eating less figuring that although I was eating LC I was still eating too many calories. So I have cut them down but I have NO idea how many a day I consume!?! I don't keep track!
Thank you for your input! I appreciate it! ;0)
