Default What's the latin name for *wild oregano*? Not the "vulgare"

Does anyone know the Latin name for the species of plant that's known as wild oregano? Not regular oregano. Thanks.

Wild Mediterranean oregano, the type which is used to prepare medicinal Oil of Oregano, is indeed Origanum vulgare. The most common type grown and sold for kitchen use in North America is actually Origanum marjoram. They're closely related, but the vulgare subspecies yields a much higher concentration of the active ingredients carvacrol and thymol.
