My pleasure...
I just thought of one more thing.
This is also a theory about why 'muscle memory' seems to exist. Muscle memory is the idea that if a person had large muscles at one time, then stops working out and gets smaller, they will be able to regain that lost muscle relatively quickly compared with a person who never had the muscle mass in the first place.
Since the fascia was already expanded during the original muscle gain... subsequent muscle gain up to that point can be rapid.
Practical application: When a dieting bodybuilder losses some muscle mass... they will quickly regain it when they start eating again.

That is VERY cool!

I actually go get a deep-tissue quad massage before doing quads every once in a while (it's EXPENSIVE!), and I LOVE the pump I get after the fascia have been relaxed a bit.

Thanks MPS that link was great, I just copied the stretching techniques (sp?) to my gym log. Maybe I should post them here also?

EDIT: here's the link to the strecthes directly: http://www.fitstep.com/Library/Info/Stretching2.htm

Default Another Question of Course

What happens if you push yourself too hard? Will it hurt the muscles, or just end up being a good workout?

Default Start slowly...

Pushing yourself too hard, too soon could end up hurting you and that would actually slow your progress.
An experienced lifter knows the difference between 'good' pain and 'bad' pain. But someone just starting out would have no way of knowing the difference. In general, sore muscles are ok, as long as you let them heal before you work them again... sore joints are very..very...bad.
I once had inflamation in my left shoulder (the joint) it took about a year for it to heal... I even had cortizone injected into it... and I still have to be careful with it. But the injury was my fault... I knew it was hurting, I ignored it and didn't let it heal... until my body forced me to let it heal. Injuries will slow down progress more than being careful. If any movement hurts a joint, I recommend finding another movement.
But there is nothing wrong with working a muscle hard after you know proper form and how your body responds to lifting.

Oh oh!! I started doing bicep curls using 25lbs cause the 10lb one is way too light and I end up doing over 25 reps.LoL With the 25lb one I can do up to 6 reps...but, I noticed the next day I had some joint pain (elbow). I let about 3 days go by w/o an arm WO so the pain is gone now.

Built, I want your arms!!

Great topic on "muscle memory"...It's no wonder when my Dh does some heavy lifting his muscles seem to "pump up" or grow faster...he use to weight lift lots in his younger years. Neat fact!

Thank you, Divina - they're my favourite part to work.

Are you doing dumbbell curls or barbell curls with the 25?

I did the seated dumbell curls using 25lb dumbells...first time I got in 1. I guess my muscles were too exhausted from the previous exercises. The next time I did 6 killer ones...I struggled with the last 2..and I think that is what hurt my elbow. I'm fine now...lessened the weight today to 15lbs and did your Workout 2. It was awesome!
I'm going to do Workout 1 next time and use the 15lbs for bicep curls and see how it goes.

good luck with this... it sounds like your doing fine. Just use good form and be sure to wait long enough between working the same body part. If it's still sore, it's too soon. I work each body part once per week, but other people have good success with working each body part more often. Three days sounds pretty good.

It took me over two years of training REALLY HARD to get up to 25 pounds a side. And I still can't do long sets with them - I do 5 sets of 5, and I can barely get through the 5th set - I have to cheat toward the end (I bump my elbow with my knee - sort of a self-spot). I havn't seen another woman at my gym lift even close to this, and some of the smaller guys are only curling 20s, so I think the 25s are pretty heavy for a woman to curl. You'll get there, but give it time.

(note: my 25s are 27.5 - they don't count the bar in the middle, but I weighed them, and it's there...)

If you can do your sets with good form using the 15s, you'll be doing really, really well.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement MPS and Built. I know TrainerDan..and both of you stressed not starting out with too heavy weights...

I tried the 25lb one cause I only had 10lb and 25lb at the time. 10lbs was way too light...25lbs too heavy. I went into the garage today and found some abandoned weights...cleaned them up and built myself a new set of 15lb. Now if I can drag the bench inside...I'll be set!

No. Actually, that took it to a whole new level - beyond dirty, verging on porn-star.
