Can we check in here and say how much we read/post here? Being new I want to get a feel for how active this board is. Is it as active as you want it to be?

I'm starting over today. I've been playing around with it and I need to get serious and get on to Phase 2. Yesterday I didn't do bad either. I'm still down 4 pounds.

Default Hi!

Hello everyone! I'm not new to the board, but I am new to the SBD. Just bought the book last weekend, and plan to get serious starting tomorrow.

I went on Atkins two years ago and lost the weight I wanted to lose pretty effortlessly, but then a family crisis happened and I backslid and ended up where I started.

Tried again last year but my heart wasn't in it. I found I got pretty bored on Atkins -- I seemed to be surviving on meat, vegetables, salad, and eggs after a while.

I also didn't like cutting out what seemed to me to be a whole food group. I know you can incorporate carbs on Atkins the same way you can on this diet, but it just didn't seem as balanced. I got to the point where I was afraid to eat an apple, and that didn't seem right to me.

So we'll give this a whirl. Some of the recipes in the book look great!

All the best,

Joanna

Default new to SB too

Hi,
I'm not new to lo carbing but just have not had success going back on Atkins.
I've been going to an Endrocrinologist since July because I was close to Type 2 diabetes. I'm definately IR and had 2 heart attacks last year. He has had me on a very strict no carb program with limited cal. but I have to go in every 3 wks for bloodwork. I've lost almost 30# which for me is 1/2 way to goal.
I have been allowed to add some veggies the last few weeks but their program as you add back carbs is very similar to SB, plus I have a friend (another Atkins drop out) who has done very well on SB.
The book makes alot of sense, I just started today so we will see if I have overcome the IR, my Dr. said I would at some point. I want off some of the meds I take!
I'm anxious to see how everyone is doing.
Anyone also with Insulin Resistence have good luck with SB?
Take care,
Debbie

I have been lo carbing for about 4 years. The most success I had was with Somersizing level 1 and 2 and then TSP. This summer I maintained and even lost a few pounds and wasn't aware of it immediatley but noticed that my clothing waistlines were larger then, weighed and was shocked that the scale had gone down But I was extremely active . Then cold weather /less activity/ and the tempting holiday treats filled in my surprise loss but I enjoyed it and didn't let it get out of control. (that is important to me.)

Now I feel I can get back on more of a program and am thinking South Beach May be a good way to get to my final goal completlly -- I do like a balanced program. After awhile I stopped believing that the food combining in Somersizing was vital for me but found TSP a good balance and for maintaining (but could not be as perfect as her program calls for and I like to use Splenda and sometimes like to eat mainly protien for the complete meal which Dr Schwarzbein's program does not call for)

I am kind of shopping right now so will be lurking here until I get the book for South Beach , read it , and I want to try the phase 1 by the book and see if I can get at least the 8 lb. loss that the author touts . I will let you all know when I start and end and how it went.

Meanwhile any hints/advice for what to buy for phase 1 that worked for you guys?-- I want to do this right so know I need to prepare well. I have found support boards very helpful so will be 'seeing ' you guys as time goes by if I like what I read in the book.

I'm here!
I check in every day. Former Atkins follower (still do to some degree) but allow myself some good carbs. Uncle sam cereal with low carb milk, steel cut oatmeal and whole wheat pasta. I keep those limited to 1 or 2 servings of those good carbs per day.
No cravings so far. Gonna test the whole wheat pasta tonight!

Hi All,

Great thread to start Cackydoodle!

I am here every day but with all the new threads it is hard to keep up.I was kind of hoping we would have one main thread that we could go directly there to get all caught up on what is new and how everyone is doing.I do love sharing and reading all the great tips from fellow beachers.

Linda
