Default Fat Fast recipes

According to Atkins, the following recipes each contain 200 calories and are properly formulated for the Fat Fast:

- 2 oz. of sour cream, containing 1 tbsp of caviar, served on 3-4 pork rinds (I think you could substitute a couple of finely chopped olives for the caviar)

- 2 deviled egg halves (yolks only, I assume), served not in the whites, but on pork rinds

- 2 oz. of chicken salad made with triple the usual amount of mayo; or use ham, egg, shrimp, etc. instead of the chicken

- 1 oz of the above in 1/2 small avocado

- 2 1/2 oz of heavy whipped cream, artifically sweetened

Default More Fat Fast ideas

I'm not too sure of the calorie count, but the following ought to fit in with the above, roughly 200 cals each:

- 1 1/2 oz. chicken, turkey, or duck skin, fried crisp, topped with hot chili sauce in a lettuce wrap

- 1/4 medium avocado, mixed with 1 tbsp mayo, a drop of lemon, and some chili powder, served on a couple of pork rinds, in lettuce wrap, or eat with a spoon

- 2 tbsp cream cheese, 1 tbsp sour cream, blended together with Splenda and a drop each of vanilla and lemon extract and/or a few shreds of unsweetened coconut and/or 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa

Cool hi Angel

One fluid ounce = 2 Tbsp, or 30 ml for those of us who do the metric thing.

So, 1/2 a fl. oz = 1 Tbsp, or 15 ml

2-1/2 fl oz = 5 Tbsp, or 75 ml

I looked it up in my foods counter, and to get the proper amount of fat and calories, you would measure the cream while it is still in its liquid form, then whip it ..

All of the solid foods that are listed in ounces would be weighed on a scale, not measured by volume.

Doreen

p.s. Remember the fat fast is only one day a week, and that Days 3, 4 and 5 are all dairy-FREE. So no whipped cream or cream cheese or cheese...

Hmm. I just came up with a gelatin salad thing-y for fat fast.

1 California avocado
2 oz. shrimp
6 Tbsp. Mayonnaise
1 Tbsp. Gelatin
3 cups water

Total Calories: 979
Fat: 96 gr = 867 cals = 89%
Carbs: 14 gr = 23 cals = 2%
Fiber: 8 gr = 0 cals = 0%
Carbs-Fiber = 6 gr
Protein: 22 gr = 90 = 9%

Fat Fast Guidelines: Consume 1000 calories, at least 90% of which are fat. 15 grams of protein are allowed and 10 grams of carbohydrates.

Not perfect, but I'll live with it!

Karen

Umm, according to the posted guidlines, only day 3 is dairy-free. So just one day a week, fat-fast dairy-free. Is this correct or wrong?

Day 3 and Day 5 are identical, so dairy-free

Day 4 is the lean meat day ... so you're right, a small amount of lowfat cottage or lowfat ricotta or dry curd cottage cheese is allowed. But no cream or regular cheese, or any other dairy food worth living for.

Default Recipe for Fat Fast Jellied Salad

Fat Fast Jellied Salad

Believe me, the last thing I thought I’d ever be doing in my life was making a jellied salad after so much time spent laughing at them. But, since LC has turned me into a gelatin convert, I’m willing to try anything!

1/2 cup cold water
1 –2 Tbsp. gelatin
2 1/2 cups boiling water
6 Tbsp. mayonnaise, preferably homemade
1 California avocado, peeled, pitted and diced
2 oz. shrimp or diced chicken breast
salt and lemon juice to taste

Sprinkle the gelatin over 1/2 cup of cold water. For a firm jelly use 2 Tbsp. of gelatin and for a softer, spoonable jelly, use 1 Tbsp. Let stand until it softens. Pour the boiling water over the gelatin and stir until the gelatin dissolves. Place in the fridge to chill until it becomes slightly thickened.

Stir the gelatin mixture into the mayonnaise till combined. Add the avocado, shrimp, salt and lemon to taste. Pour into a loaf pan and refrigerate overnight.

Total Calories: 979
Fat: 96 gr = 867 cals = 89%
Carbs: 14 gr = 23 cals = 2%
Fiber: 8 gr = 0 cals = 0%
Carbs-Fiber = 6 gr
Protein: 22 gr = 90 = 9%

Gee, that sounds pretty good, Karen! It also looks like a substantial amount of food, which seems less scary than picking at a teaspoon of this, a tablespoon of that, all day. I'm not a huge fan of gelatin, but I think I'll try it!

Cool I'm just doing a trial run of the fat fast today

Not officially starting Day 1 till tomorrow. Anyway, I worked out a menu for the day that is almost exactly the correct proportions, and is quite palatable.

- 3 Tbsp heavy cream, to be used in coffee, or incorporate into the soup or mousse recipes that follow.
- 1 Tbsp flax oil, sipped off the spoon! (or add an extra 1 Tbsp olive oil to the soup)
- 1 cup chicken broth, divided ... 1/2 to make avocado soup, 1/2 cup to make Eggyolk "mousse"
- Avocado Soup - sauté the white part of 1 green onion in 1 Tbsp butter and 1 Tbsp olive oil (save the green parts for the EggYolk Mousse). Add 1/2 cup chicken broth, 1/2 cup water, bring just to the boil. Purée or blenderize with 1/2 an avocado (the black-skinned variety, higher in fat, lower in carbs), salt & pepper. Garnish with a little parsley, fresh or dried. This is good either hot or chilled
- Egg Yolk Mousse - dissolve 1/2 pkg (1/2 tbsp) unflavoured gelatin in 1/2 cup boiling water. Add 1/2 cup chicken broth. Chill till partially set. Fold in 2 Tbsp mayonnaise, 2 chopped cooked eggyolks, the chopped green onion tops, leftover from making the soup, salt & pepper to taste. A little cayenne or dry mustard powder is good. Chill until set. Serve mousse on 2 large lettuce leaves, shredded, or use the lettuce as a wrap. (**note - you can use the yolks from 2 hardboiled eggs, or from 2 raw eggs - the whites will keep in a covered container in the fridge for 2-3 days - place the raw yolks in a heat-proof cup, stir to blend then microwave for 20 to 30 seconds. Let cool, then chop!)
- 5 liters water

calories: 1009
Fat: 102g (90%)
Carbs: 15g minus Fiber: 5g = 10g effective carbs
Protein: 15g

Good luck everybody ..

Talking Thanks

Thanks Doreen. Your detailed plan finally convinced me to get aggressive and actually look at this project again - u won't believe the resistance.

Karen and Rachel couldn't have made it easier.
Thanks for all the effort you are putting into making this so straightforward.
Take care
