Default What they are saying in another low carb bulletin board....

On another BB at this website, they are talking about something I've never heard spoken of here......

With regard to LC products that list "effective carbs", some folks say that a carb is a carb is a carb====meaning if the carbs are listed at, say, 17 grams, but it says 1 gram effective carbs, you can't count on that because some people's blood sugar IS effected by glycerin, sugar alcohols, etc.

Have any of you heard this??? I'm worried cuz' I'd hate to think that those FABULOUS caramel bars that really are great every once in a while when you crave a sweet, really have tons'o'carbs instead of the 1 "effective carb" listed.

I would think that if glycerin, etc., doesn't elevate blood sugar in our bodies, it would be the same for EVERYONE.....that it wouldn't vary from person to person. I also think Adkins would have mentioned it in his books....

Anyone?

Yes, I have heard of "effective carbs". What that is, is Total Carbs minus Fiber minus alcohol sugar = EEC ("effective carbs"). Some have found that Alcohol Sugar stall their weight loss. I am one of these people. I do subtract the fiber but the alcohol sugar cause me to stall. Hope this help.

Yes, it is true and it's a frequent discussion topic here. While some people may never be affected by it, others are. And, some people are affected by any kind of artificial sweetener.
