Default Spaghetti Squash in the UK

Has anybody tried it - if so what is it like and where can you get it?

I am in London and have had no joy in finding it and am now becoming desperate to know what it tastes like as I miss pasta and have heard that low carb pasta is not that good and is amazingly expensive.

Question Squashes in the UK

No, I've never seen it in the UK. I notice that Sainsbury's are now doing some squashes, imported from the US, but have not seen the spaghetti one amongst them, so can not help you there.

Why not use beansprouts instead as a base?

Hey fluffy scat,

I too have been unable to find spaghetti squash and have trawled much of Kent and bits of London.

I would love to try it so if you do manage to find somewhere that sells it PLEASE PLEASE drop me a message or put another posting on as we can't be the only curious people in the South East.

Can't help you on where to find it, but I thought I would add a link to a photo, just in case they are calling it something different there!

Contrary to popular belief, the keto spaghetti isn't bad. It just feels slightly different to normal spaghetti - it's more like instant noodles.

Good News Orangeboy

I think I have found a source for Spaghetti Squash but I may have to buy it in bulk. It comes into season in about 4 weeks so if your interested in spliting the cost we may have cracked it - lol

Anyone else interested drop me a message I think a box might go quite a long way - lol

Thumbs up Got some seeds

I went to Wisley, one of the Royal Horticultural Society gardens, yesterday and whilst I was there saw some spaghetti squash seeds, packed in Italy. Have brought some and so will give them a go at growning them this year. Mind you, it will be about 3 to 4 months before they crop!

Glad you may have found a source.

Are any major supermarkets stocking spaghetti squash now? Sainsbury's or Safeway would be ideal... Any ideas?

I've bought it from Sainsbury's in Glasgow quite a few times, but haven't been in there recently.

My local Tesco (Ipswich) sells it most of the time - it's in a big display with lots of squashes in it.

The cooked squash has little flavour - which cvan be a plus point as it soaks up flavourful creamy sauces.

I cook mine in the microwave - stab it a few times and cook on high for about 5 mins. Allow to cool a bit, cut in half and then scrape out the flesh which comes away in strands.

It's great with a pesto or carbonara sauce

Like Tony I have seen it in the mixed squash selection at my local Sainsburys.

If you see one buy it. They keep very well. I grew 6 last year and harvested them in October. I ate one last weekend and still have one sitting on my kitchen window sill.
