Question Do you actually LOVE hot tea?

I was thinking today (because I am trying so hard to get back on track) about how much I love coffee. I know I shouldn't drink as much of it as I do, but I really crave something hot to drink this time of year. I have an assortment of herbal and flavored teas. I will drink them occasionally, but I really don't LOVE them. I just kind of like them.

My biggest problem is that in this big old drafty house we live in, the tea seems to get cold so fast, and if I am going to drink hot tea, it has to be REALLY HOT!!!! When I drink coffee, it can cool off a little and that won't bother me any.

One thing I do like is Alpine No Sugar Added Spiced Cider Drink. It's really GOOD! But, I can get tired of that easily.

Coffee, I never get tired of!

So, how about you? Do any of you actually LOVE hot tea? And if so, what kind do you drink?

I wonder if you might like yerba maté, especially Java Maté Dark Roast. It's very coffee like.

I like Earl Grey tea with cream and splenda, some people like it with a slice of lemon instead of the cream. I also like lapsang souchong, a smoked black tea. If you're concerned about caffeine, you can easily find decaffinated Earl Grey. Unfortunately it is impossible to find a decaffinated lapsang souchong.

As far as green teas go, I like genmai cha, which is green tea with toasted rice (I don't think steeping the rice grains throws me off at all, I don't eat the rice!), and hoji cha, a roasted green tea. I drink both of these plain.

Another hot drink possibility is broth or stock! Have you ever sipped a cup of broth when you were cold?

personally, i can't do extremely hot drinks. my tongue is kinda sensitive, and always has been... it bugged the everloving daylights out of me when i was little and would complain that soup was too hot, and my parents refused to believe me with the "it's not too hot for ME" thing and wouldn't let me have a glass of milk or water with it. yeah, well, that's you, this is me, and my tongue is burning, thank you very much for not listening to me and showing i don't know my own mouth.

i've never been a big fan of hot tea, but i do love it iced. my favorite thing to do is throw a couple of teabags into a large glass of icewater and let it steep. celestial seasoning's lemon zinger is great, but so is republic of tea's ginger peach. i find i drink a lot more water during the day if i make tea instead of just having plain water.

I too am a coffee drinker but do enjoy a cup of hot tea in the afternoons (especially with the colder weather). I normally drink a cup of the English Breakfast Tea.

If I am not on track with my daily water requirements I substitute the tea for a cup of hot water and sip on it in the afternoon. (I know it sounds strange but it does help me keep on track with my daily water requirements and also gives me the warmth inside as coffee or tea would do for me).

If you don't mind me commenting, you guys do tea all wrong!!! When I came to the US I was aghast at just how dreadful your tea making is!!

Firstly, a lot of you folk make tea in the exact way you make coffee; Whilst coffee needs water which is not on the boiling point (because it can destroy the flavour or 'burn' the granules) tea NEEDS boiling water, water which has literally just boiled, is bubbling as it goes into the cup!

Also, some of you guys add the milk to the tea bag before adding the water, this is a complete nono, you need to add the tea/tea bag in the cup or pot first, then immediately add the boiling water, let it steep and then add the milk if you are having any. That way the flavour develops before stifling and cooling the tea.

Thirdly, you should drink tea out of bone china. This isn't just one of those 'posh' traditions, it's actually because bone china holds heat longer than the usual clay or porcelain cups. Oh and finally you should always chose a cup or mug which isn't too wide at the neck....or all the heat immediately goes out of the tea.

Hope no one takes offence at this post, but the English are experts at making the perfect brew

I LOVE hot tea!! Love, love, love it! I think I love hot tea the way others love coffee because I'm not a coffee drinker at all and I have to have my daily tea fix. My mom got me onto the different flavored teas but it wasn't until I became pregnant with my oldest (5 yrs ago) that I really started to enjoy hot tea. I need a cup with breakfast and a cup after the kids go to bed to help relax. I have to have green tea in my cabinet, in addition...I drink the fruity flavored teas, chamomile, lemon flavored, and chai (oooh, I could kiss the person that introduced me to chai tea!). I also love the celestial seasonings tea. I have the gingerbread and nutcracker flavors now...sooo good! Tea is my "sweet" fix also. When I feel like something sweet, I sit down to a cup of tea. I don't do the plain tea but if I have to, I add lemon and sweetener or sometimes cream and sweetener. There is so much variety when it comes tea, how can you not love it! Oh, and I have some of the no sgr apple cider stuff too, I added that to french vanilla tea

Thanks for the tips! I fix my tea exactly like you have mentioned (boil the water in the kettle, put the tea bag in the cup, pour the boiling water over the tea bag, let it seep for awhile, and than add my sweetener) I don't remove my tea bag though, not sure if I'm suppose to *lol* but I do need to buy the bone china! and I didn't know about the neck thing.

…not to be too picky but I hate tea in a cup you need to use a teapot and make a strong brew and let it steep at least 5 minutes. If you want it lighter add some hot water to your tea cup.

None taken. I tell you what I miss (just from visiting the UK), clotted cream!!!!

Then again, so many here in the US like what I consider weak beer. Hooray for Samuel Adams and the microbrewers!

As for me, I am drinking 1-2 cups of reg. coffee each day with no problems. I've tried 1/2 decaf style coffee and will probably start buying that.

I don't love tea not because of the cup/temps, but I oughta go back to trying it with cream. I don't like to leave the teabag in the cup as it gets bitter :-( . The effect is not so bad with herb teas. I usually stick with Green Tea.

Probably not help here, but that's were I stand.

I'm a big tea fan too.

Thanks foxgluvs for pointing out the right way to make it. The worst is the coffee chains (like Starbucks etc.) who make tea with not-quite boiling water. Yuck - tastes like dishwater.

I love my decaffeinated green tea made by Twinings. I have it with coconut oil as an after dinner 'snack'.

Bone china? But my Brown Betty teapot isn't even made of bone china, and it's definitely English!

Well, I always heard you should heat the tea cup first with boiling water before you add the teabag and boiling water or use a teapot. I cut back to two cups a day since tea has 3 carbs the way I make it with 2 tea bags and some cream and splenda.

I'm a coffee lover and a tea "enjoyer"...but an ICED tea lover. Go figure. My Mom loves a cup of tea (and dessert, natch, LOL) at night. I could take or leave it, but if I do take it, I choose Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime tea. As for iced tea, as long as it doesn't taste funky, I enjoy a wide range of it and frequently order that as my "other than water" drink when I go out to eat.
