Unhappy Someone Help

Please can someone advise me where i'm going wrong. Friends who've done the atkins seem to lose about 5lb a week I've just finished my first week and only lost 1lb!!

I eat bacon and eggs for breakfast, meat and salad at lunch, veg and loads of meat in a cream sauce for dinner. I then snack through the day on cheese ,cold meat (ham), brazil nuts or atkins breakfast bars or shakes. I only drink water (2l a day) or green tea, the occasional red wine ( 1 bottle twice a week)

Someone help !!!
Cheers!!

Default well maybe some slight alterations

first maybe your eating either too many fake foods ( ie atkins bar and such) and when i use to eat a ton of cheese I would sometimes stay the same or gain, maybe you should go and do induction and see if that helps, have you read the book? if not go to the link about and print out the legal foods list

Keep with it, it works but you have to di it right, and 1 pounds lost if a pound less.

This is your first week right? No nuts, also the atkins shakes can stall you because of the sugar alcohols.

Everything else looks great.

It's best not to drink any alcohol during the first few weeks. Two bottles of wine in a week could certainly slow your weight loss! Wine has sugars and carbs in it, not to mention alcohol. If you really want to drink alcohol, it's much better to drink vodka, rum, or bourbon, which have no carbs. (Mix them in diet soda.) Your body will stop burning fat until it has burned all the alcohol first, so it will still slow you down, but at least your body won't switch over to burning primarily carbs. Good luck!

I think the book says no bars, shakes, nuts, or alcohol during Induction. Everything else sounds good. Keep trying and good luck. Everybody is different so we all have to find the right combination for us. Good Luck and keep us posted.

You also might want to take into consideration that you don't have a ton of weight to lose so naturally you will lose a little slower than someone who has a lot of weight to lose.

I'd take out

the wine
the atkins bars/shakes (i think they are junk food regardless of the atkins label)
the nuts

that should help a lot.

Default "lots of meat" gets my attention

Are your portions modest, or generous? I've taken a long time to lose the weight I've lost because I wouldn't give up big servings. LC helps, but it can't do the whole thing. Have to be lower-calorie as well.

Your profile indicates your plan is Dr. Charles Clarke. Is this really the plan you are on? How does this plan relate to Atkins? If you thought you were doing Atkins, obviously you did not read the book. The first two weeks are called the Induction period and do not allow nuts, alcohol, low-carb frankenfoods. I would suggest reading the book and following the instructions therein before wondering what you are doing wrong on the Atkins plan.

Thanks for that. I've cut out the nuts and shakes/bars and most of the wine and within just a few days i can see a real difference.

Try dropping the 2 bottles of wine. That is not occasional...that is pretty heavy.
Sounds like you are 'grazing' all day on low carb snacks and the amount of calories you are taking in is high.
Cream sauce has to go-dense calories without filling you up. The meat and veg for dinner should suffice.

I also find if I eat too much cheese it tends to slow me down - it's hard cuz I looove cheese! And also I find that eating "tons of meat" tends to slow me a bit too. It's hard on the digestive system also. I have recently gotten back on the "low carb wagon" and this time around I am trying to limit calories also...not drastically though. Good luck to you.
