Default Biking my butt off

I keep my riding stats on Bikejournal.com, but this will be where I talk about how the rides make me feel, how strong I feel or don't feel, stuff like that. As of this moment, I have 478 miles on the road this year. I have 3 bikes that see regular use. A touring bike, a new road road bike, and a classic old one that I got off Ebay and restored as a project last year. It;s too big for me, but it came out so well, that I keep it around. In fact, I rode it 46 miles yesterday and then gave it to Russell, in the bike club, who is earning extra college money by detailing bikes at $20 per, plus tips if so inclined

Today I took the tourer 19 miles up and down some local hills, about 500' of climb up and down, repeat, repeat... Well, some were less, say 250 - 300 ft. You get tired, it feels like the Alps. I don't have the heart pumper to work my legs to their full potential. I'm not sure why. Never smoked, just don't have it. I guess I should find a battery for the heart monitor and see what kind of pulse I am generating. Brisk headwinds today, and it was psychologically more tiring than it was actually a drag on the muscles. Also, it is more tiring to ride alone than with a partner. Today was solo. Steve across the street, young air force Msgt, fabulous shape, thin as all get out, says he may ride with me next week. He's never been on the road, but is willing to give it a try.

Forgot about this area of the web site! Been a busy past year since that 1st post. In December, Russell plead guilty to murdering his wife, and is a guest of the state for the next 23 years. What a shock that was. None of us who rode with him had any idea. In December also, I had a bike accident. A pit bull got me and caused me to crash. I was off exercise for 6 weeks recovering. I sold the touring bike, and the old restored Trek, along with a fancy fountain pen. I put some of the money towards a new bike that I am gaga over. Almost 1,200 miles ridden so far this year. Now that there is adequate daylight after work, I ride Tues and Thurs for 90 mins in the hills. Weight lifting has been sporadic. Need to get regular there.

Good ride on Sunday afternoon. 1st time we've ridden in the rain (sprinkles, really) in a year. 4 guys, 2 gals. 33 miles of rolling hills. Nothing too steep or tall. My hamstrings were sore right where they join my bottom. I said to the group that a butt massage would feel great, and there was no sex involved whatsoever! Let's see if I canmotivate to do a weights workout tonight, and get into an alternating pattern.

Hey Russell,

Sorry for the delay - I don't check my gym log anywhere near enough hehehe

Sounds scary what happened with that Russell guy. I've never had anything like that EVER happen to me or anyone I've heard of so I've really no idea what to say. I hope you guys are ok though, no stress/worry about it happening to you or anything?

That cycle sounds like so much fun Did you end up getting your butt massaged? hehehe

Hi Erica:
Thanks for coming by. Sadly, no volunteers for those aching glutes, so I sorta did it myself. I'm at 1,750 miles this year, and have the legs to go with that. Now if I could just get the rest of me into gear How are YOU doing?

Bruce

Wow, that's impressive!!

Me well I don't even have a bike yet. They only have a 6-week lay-buy policy at the bike shop I enquired at and it's just a bit much for me to do in 6 weeks. And not starting of course means I procrastinate etc etc. I also have NO IDEA what kind to buy and am always sceptical of sales people's opinions (can't help it).

So what's the next biking challenge coming up?

rode 38 + miles today at 15.4 avg speed. Great outing with good people. Managed effort level and hydration (it's HOT here now) and avoided cramps or exhaustion.

My son has decided to "get ripped" with the P90X fitness video program, which he got from a guy who liked the IDEA of it much more than the reality of doing it! He also bought one of those door frame chin up bars and some power elastic exercise bands. P90X is WAY too fast for me, but I do 5 each chin ups and pull ups, and am doing sit ups and push ups along with dumbbells again. Does Tylenol come in "P90X" strength?

5 chin ups
6 pull ups
25 pushups + 20 pushups
20 sit ups + 20 sit ups (1/2 straight, 1/2 criss cross)

7 chin ups
8 pull ups
30 push ups
56 sit ups (straight + criss cross)

Each with no pause

That was yesterday the 28th. My son and his equally zany pal are doing P90X, which promises a "ripped" body in only 90 days. I told them that I'm doing P55X (I'm 55) which means slower, shorter, and more spaced out old fashioned calisthenics. Progress is happening though. Today (Saturday) I rode 56 miles on the bike. During the ride, I happened to look down and was surprised to see daylight between my thighs and the saddle. Made me smile.

Got up early today and exercised before church. Fasting from yesterday evening until communion anyway and exercise takes my mind off my stomach.

16 miles of hill repeats on the bike
10 pull ups!
5 chin ups (more later)
60 sit ups (straight + Cross)
35 pushups

All done as individual sets.

27 miles and 1500' of climb on the bike
