Default Bad breath?

Does everyone in ketosis get this bad breath? I am in ketosis and wont even come 5 feet from anyone because i am afraid to offend anyone. Is it so bad that you would think of stopping Atkins? I am afraid right about now!!

It is awful and is the main drawback to this WOE, I'm afraid. It requires a lot of diligence: drink lots of water, floss, brush all surfaces of the mouth (teeth, outside and inside gums, tongue, under tongue), rinse well, use mouthwash...several times a day. Also carry breath mints and pop them anytime I'm think I'm close enough for someone to smell it. And I'm still self-conscious about it.

I don't use the gum, but I do use the mints.

Try Listerine Strips and SF Mini Altoids. Why in the world would you quit your weight loss for something as trivial as bad breath?

I chew sugarless gum all the time. Did you know that chewing gum helps keep your brain healthy? I read that somewhere but I forgot where....Just think, if I hadn't been chewing gum, I probably wouldn't have even remembered that I had read that!

I read that this is common. I have smelled the breath of my co-workers unfortunately who are on the plan right now....woooo. I find that because I drink water throughout the day, that I don't notice it so much on myself, but then again I could be in denial.

I see a lot of people that come on and make up silly excuses to threaten to quit the diet...stalling for a week or two, going up in weight 1 lb (water weight), and now perhaps bad breath. Maybe you didn't really mean that though.

There are ways to get around the bad breath and there are people that are not on the diet who have yucky breath. Try drinking more water, brushing extra, and a mint.

I don't notice any difference in the smell of my urine. Not that I'm smelling it on purpose. hee hee. It might be all the water I am drinking as I have problems tolerating sf sodas though I have added them recently.

I am still researching this diet. Does your breath smell the whole time you are on the diet or only during ketosis? And does everybody's breath stink? I don't eat red meat much (2 times a month, maybe 3). Does the type meat you eat factor into the bad breath?

my husband tells me my breath stinks like a dead racoon gone bad.. i tell folks around me that its my diet and i try to eat a lot of gum and breath mints whenever im around people. i cant smeel it myself but i know its there.
it helps to know that its only while im in ketosis i will smell this bad. when i get to maintenance it will be gone again.
hang in there and keep smelling with the rest of us
