Oh Turtle, I'm so sad for you. You had been doing so well...zipping downward like a champ. And you ARE still down several pounds for the month so that is something to celebrate. However you do NOT want to undo all of your progress.

So, it's TIME TO ANALYZE...

Did you go off plan or just eat way way too much of on-plan foods? If you went off plan, what was the temptation/situation that got you off plan? What can you do to either avoid that same situation (or similar situations) occurring again? If the situation itself is unavoidable, what can you do to be better prepared for such situations in the future so that YOU can stay in control and ON your WOE next time around.

Once you've figured out just how and why things went wrong, you can RESOLVE to handle such situations better the next time around...but keeping that resolution pretty much requires having a PLAN for handling it better! Finally, forgive yourself and MOVE ON.

So... three steps.
1) Analyze the mistake
2) Make a plan for doing better
3) Forgive yourself for the past mistake and MOVE ON

YOU CAN DO THIS! We're in your corner!

Bev: Great job on your loss! It is sooo hard when you are away to stay on plan and to maintain your loss without a scale. I am going away this weekend and then next weekend, we are leaving for Myrtle Beach for a week. I can usually stay on plan, but my weight is usually up when I get back. I know many times it is from fluid retention from the long hours traveling, but I get inpatient waiting for it to drop. I will not have a scale either as there won't be room to pack it so I'm a little apprehensive about the trip. However, you have just proven that it can be done!

Turtle: We're kind of in the same situation. I've had a rough couple of days and the scale shows it. I made my mind up today that I am only cheating myself by not making good choices. It's so easy to relax the eating a little and it's amazing how quickly the pounds can come back. All I have to do is eat one thing at night and I want to eat all night. I've decided that "first bite" isn't worth it. I know what works for me and what doesn't (Nuts don't!) Hopefully, I'll see a loss tomorrow morning, but if not, I'm going to stay on plan.

~bevangel and ~kosmo, thanks for the commiseration, guys. I have analyzed the problem, and it is 'nuts'. That's not the complete story of course, but when I decided a few days ago that I needed/wanted to eat more than I was planning to, I started in on the peanuts in the shell I had bought to feed the birds. How low was that? I was not only ruining my diet, I was stealing from the birds.

Well, the peanuts are all gone now (those that are not now attached to my hips) and the eating frenzy seems to have subsided. Hopefully I am back on track now. For sure I won't be buying any kind of peanuts for a long time. Sorry, little feathered friends.

Turtle: That was exactly my problem...peanuts. My husband likes them and we bought a big bag at Sam's. However, I was the one who opened the bag, thinking I could just eat one or two. After a counter full of empty shells, I moved on to all other kinds of bad food.

Welcome back to onderland, Toddy!

Peanuts? I didn't think they were supposed to be bad for a LC diet. I just looked up peanut nutrition info and the ratios of calories from carbs/protein/fat seems to be pretty much in line with LC recommendations. (11% carbs, 17% protein, 72% fat).

My hubby and I buy and keep peanuts around for snacking all the time.

Wonder if the problem with peanuts is that all the salt causes extra water retention?

In any case, I would think extra weight from a peanut binge would drop back off pretty quickly. I mean, it isn't like you binged on glazed doughnuts!!!

I find that sometimes when I start eating something that seems to be bringing on a binge, it helps to go up and brush my teeth. Not sure if it is getting the taste out of my mouth or the process of walking away and doing something ELSE for a couple of minutes that helps, but it seems to work.

Looks like overall April has been a very good month! Big losses for Kosmo, Trya, Toddy, and Turtle from April 1 to April 30! Really proud of you all.

And Oma, Jama, and I are all hanging pretty steady - no huge losses to celebrate for us but also no big gains over the month! Even if we're not losing as fast as we might like, we ARE learning to MAINTAIN what we have achieved thus far. And that is a huge victory.

ONWARD TO MAY! Hope to see all of you in next month's thread. Who wants to start it?
