So far I weigh, between 187 and 189. My TOM is slated to start this weekend, and I am not sure if the extra weight is due to water retention or the adding of sweet potatoes this week. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Hi and welcome!
It can be confusing when you are getting your TOM and retain water from that. I highly doubt that its the sweet potatoes unless you ate too much of them. * 1/2 cup is a serving.*
Some of us find that we can add in foods just a few days of the first week and not daily. Maybe you want to slow down on how many days you are eating them.
What else are you eating?
Are you eating any other fruit than the apples with peanut butter and how much peanut butter are youy eating daily?
Your losses are good for your first couple of weeks and so you're doing well! Make sure that you're drinking all your water daily.
I used to get a bit constipated with my TOM and always saw gain from that. Are you feeling backed up at all?
Hope this helps!
