Unhappy anger management :)

Hello everyone,

I quit 2 weeks ago *pats herself on the back* and I barely think of smoking anymore (that's from someone who used to go up to 60 cigs/day if given the opportunity). I do, however, have one teeny tiny problem: anger. I snap so easily lately, just about anything can drive me absolutely crazy in a matter of seconds! I'm not like that! I used to be a fairly laid-back person and I maybe experienced anger twice a year. Since I've quit it seems like I'm angry twice a minute!! It's killing my relationship and my social life! It's so bad that even I can't stand myself anymore, still I can't help getting angry.

Please help. What can I do about it?

Hi there,
Congratulations on quitting smoking. That is not an easy thing to do. I think maybe stopping and thinking before you speak might help. Think of how your reaction will affect the other person ie hurt their feelings. I dont know. Hope this helps.

Maybe meditation. I have tried to quit numerous times and anger and/or frustration is always what kills my effort.

Be sure you're exercising. Smoking gives you bursts of seritonin, which calms you. If you aren't doing other things to raise your seritonin levels, you will be grumpy. Even an antidepressant, temporarily, might get you over the hump.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and encouragements. I had almost forgotten about this post, that's why I didn't answer earlier.

As an update, I just waited for the anger to subside by itself and eventually it did. Temperamentally speaking I'm my old self again. And life is much more fun now that I am no longer nicotine's bitch.
