Default Are You A Diet Diva?

Hey, did anyone see the article in the Melbourne Herald/Sun Body and Soul section on Sunday? It was a real rubbish of low-carb, the cabbage soup diet, the scarsdale diet and the caveman diet!

Bronwen Gora wrote and I quote:

"Mary-Ann eats only every six hours. That way, she thinks she'll burn up what she ate last time and so will be ready for the next batch. When she does eat, it's only a few crackers (she thinks carbohydrates are bad) with a few vegetables and maybe some steamed or grilled chicken or fish.

"While her choices aren't too bad, Mary-Ann eats too little and yet wonders why she feels listless and depressed. She thinks her diet is healthy; her doctor knows she's on the path to anorexia."

And again:

"if you're following something like a Dr. Atkins-style low-protein diet - where carbohydrates are virtually a no-go zone - you may not get enough B vitamins."

And again:

The Hollywood set has taken this low-protein eating regime to heart. It'll be a sure-fire hit if your priority is to get a skeletal figure, miss out on B vitamins and risk ketosis (an unpleasant side effect of eating too much protein and not enough carbs, with symptoms that include constipation and bad breath). Atkins maintains that carbs are bad and you can eat only less than 20g per day, which is equivalent to a carton of flavoured yoghurt or one piece of bread. You can eat an unlimited amount of protein."

Well, in the first breath she says it is a low-protein regime, yet ends up saying that you can eat an unlimited amount of protein! This girl has done a very scratchy reading of everything popular and has got it all wrong!

I won't contact her as I am still only up to page 114 of Atkins and still have a lot to learn but, if anyone wants to, her name, again, is Bronwen Gora and the email address is bodysoul~newsltd.com.au

Happy low-carbing!
