Smile Hello & Schwarzbein Question

Hello Schwarzbein People:

After reading both Somersize and Schwarzbein, I've finally decided to de-lurk and ask a couple of questions.

First, I'll introduce myself. My name is Kat. I am a 44yo returned to graduate school woman who hangs around thin 20 year olds all day. I need support since every time I say "I'm off the sugar" they think I'm obsessing about their level of sugar when all I really was looking for was a little bit of support. I am taking Synthroid, my blood pressure is inching up and need to stop the inevitable walk to the heart attack.

In my life I have lost hundreds of pounds, but not in a very healthy way. I am much better at not eating, then I am at moderation -- this is why not eating any sugar is much easier than just eating a little.

Questions: Schwarzbein seems to be easier to follow than Atkins or Somersize because you can include a little bit of carbs. But does this prevent consistent weight loss? Most importantly, what are the long term and maintenance benefits of Schwarzbein? Anyone on maintenance I would love to hear from. I need to make a decision based on the books I've read along with your opinions -- the people who actually make this work!

I appreciate your help.

I'm not in maintainance but I do like doing what I'm doing. I feel much better.
Instead of telling the girls that you are just avoiding sugar, tell them that for health reasons, you are not eating sugar. When health becomes part of the issue, not just weight, it usually leads to better understanding. Not always, but it helps a bit.
Glad to see you here. Start a journal, and visit others, that is a great help.

Eating carbs on the SP is what makes this program work for life. When you finnish getting healthy, you will not totally abandon this WOL. After you have gone through transition from ill-health to good health, you will add back a few carbs to stop weight loss.

After you start eating this way, you'll wonder why the whole world doesn't do it all the time. The way you feel will be faster to improve than weight loss is to achieve. This is a slow, but rewarding process. It is a lifetime commitment to treat yourself well and age with some grace and dignaty. You mention your age is 44. You'll find the hormone balance to be worth every thing. I cannot tell you, what a change I have experienced since I started eating this way. Better sleep patterns, not nearly as bitchy or on edge. This is a good thing. Give it a try. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

I've been on Schwarzbein for 7 weeks tomorrow, and I have already noticed a significant drop in my blood pressure. I started at 135/82 and now I'm down to 128/70.

I find moderation easy on this plan (for the first time ever!). I never feel hungry or deprived, in fact, my biggest "problem" is trying to make myself eat the snacks I am supposed to when I really don't feel hungry for them. Overall, this is the easiest diet to stick to that I have ever been on, because I'm not having any cravings at all.

It hasn't prevented it yet in my case. I've lost 21 pounds in seven weeks, and more than 24" of flab from all over my body. I suggest that you take all your measurements (including arms, legs, etc) and keep track of your loss in inches as well as pounds. Since TSP is intended to help lose fat AND increase muscle, and since muscle weighs more than fat and takes up less space, there may be times when you aren't losing weight on the scale but you are losing inches.

My long term goal is to be healthier, and I chose this plan out of all the others because it seemed to be the one that was focused on becoming healthy and balanced, not just on losing weight. As you can see, I have lost weight, but to me the health benefits I have obtained are nothing short of miraculous, and that is far more valuable to me than mere weight loss.

Good luck!

Smile Thank You!

Thank you so much, everyone, for answering my questions and giving me support.

I will continue to stay on Schwarzbein -- I think I've decided it's best for me. I gave up sugar about 2 months ago and haven't really had a craving since. Now I need to re-read the book to make sure I'm really on the program and not just making it up (unless of course that works).

It's too bad I can't afford to visit her clinic since I live right here in Santa Barbara.

Thanks again!

Kat

Kat,
I just got done reading the SP book this morning and have decided to follow the menu plans at the end of the book to get a feel of how many carbs I should be eating without going under or over. I also was on hormone replacement but about 2-3 weeks ago opted to try and live without them. After reading her book everything came together and this morning I also went back on them. I need to get some of the supplements to help with the serotonin as I'm exactly the person she is talking about in the book and I've been abusing my body for years! I'm really hoping that if I remain consistent it will get easier and the weight and inches will come off. Good luck to you...
Mari
