Default Plain yogurt - friend or enemy for those with Candida?

So, most folks seem to say "stay away from all sugars, including yogurt."

My doctor told me this week that plain yogurt is ok because the sugars have already been broken down and partly digested (if you will) by the yogurt/probiotics. He thinks yogurt is a good way to start for the first 2 weeks if you are sensitive to the probiotic capsules.

Thoughts? How have others done with yogurt?

If you really want all the sugars gone, you have to ferment your yogurt for longer than normal. The Specific Carbohydrate Diet has a recipe for 24-hour yogurt that is supposedly ok.

Personally, yogurt never worked for me in any form. I can't handle dairy at all. I think this is pretty common for candida sufferers.

Probiotic alternatives to yogurt include raw sauerkraut, miso, raw apple cider vinegar, umeboshi, kimchi, kombucha, and coconut milk yogurt.

Home made yogurt is fantastic. You have to use whole milk and maybe even with some cream. Oh yummy, even plain.

What Capmikee said seems to hold true for me, as well as most people with candida issues. Store bought yoghurt does not seem to be beneficial, and dairy just feeds the fungus.
Are you sensitive to probiotics? In what way, and what kind /dose did you have issues with?
