Sometimes weather conditions make any walking outside close to impossible although the dog still needs to go out multiple times a day (4 usually). Yesterday was a light to moderate all day snow storm but I did take a fairly long walk, without the dog, despite the falling snow and less then perfect condition of the sidewalks. The trick to surviving the winter weather is all in having the proper gear and this year I seem to have finally got it just right with a new jacket, one of those wonderful Ebay bargains, a brand new retails at over $300 very warm Woolrich jacket for under $90, a pair of extremely warm mittens from Sweden (this was a birthday splurge, no bargain but worth it for fingers that stay warm) and a new bomber type hat from LL Bean that I have been considering for several years and really does the trick when the temperature is well below freezing. I already have appropriate foot gear for all conditions including the always important ice cleats. Today's freezing rain may defeat all this gear. Some conditions I just have to wait out. Falling on the ice could put me out of commission for much longer than a day.

Winter has set in. Friday there was a snow storm. Saturday there was an ice storm. Today no storm but slippery conditions from yesterday's ice storm. Starting tonight another snow storm lasting into tomorrow. Bitter cold starting on Tuesday. Wednesday night into Thursday morning the predicted low is -12F (-24C) with no end of the cold weather in sight. I guess I am going to just have to bite the bullet and start walking to Leslie Sansone as much as I dislike it.

It was 67 degrees yesterday during my workout. But winter is headed this way. Today is much colder. I am fortunate that I have a neighborhood gym to go to when it gets really nasty. But I prefer outdoor workouts even in the cold. So I hope that I'm not forced to visit the gym too often in the coming months.

I hope you all won't mind if I don't count steps. I've had a foot injury and wasn't able to walk for 3 years, so I'm going slow and would like to just count minutes. I need to get my heart in condition.

12/21 14min My first walk I took off like a race horse, that lasted 30sec.

I am going to have to start walking indoors. Two snow storms and one ice storm in 4 days makes outdoor walking close to impossible. Now extreme cold weather is setting in with temperatures falling well below 0 farenheit. This will last longer than a week they predict. Oh how I hate Leslie Sansone and her perky upbeat attitude.
