It's been slow journey, but my A1c is now 6.4 - officially pre-diabetic! I'll keep on keeping on & eventually - I hope - I will be officially diabetes free.

Great news Bonnie. You are a good example of how just sticking with it works even if the progress is slower than you would like.

I hope she does, too. All she seems to be focused on is my "need" for a statin because my total cholesterol & LDL are up. But everything else is fine!

That makes me growl like angry mama bear.

Fortunately, my GP is very cool with not pushing it. In fact, he told me he has seen how elevated cholesterol seems to be protective as people age.

I have the same ldl issue,, which I think is due to still losing weight, hence lots of blood lipids. My doc is threatening statins but I am countering with a) let's wait till my weight is stable (not far to go... I am at 78 percent to goal) b) we need a particle size eval and c) I am changing out some animal fats for fish avocado and olive oil.
Honestly, I think I will decline statins no matter what but my ldl is 199 and my triglycerides are 140 so it seems those should come down. Hdl is great... 69. My doc is on board with low carb, but I don't think he is clear on ldl. He IS on board with particle size being relevant before future discussions of statins occur.
I have been very rigorous with the eating plan and no cheats, so I am hoping the "bad" numbers are mostly indicative of fats being released for fuel.
A1c is 4.4!

I'd trade elevated ldl for prediabetes any day.

Or is that vice versa? Anyways, I'd be glad to be rid of the prediabetes.

A lot pf people will find a small uptick in LDL after starting.. There is a great explanation of why somewhere. I will see if I can find it, but it is why they recommend testing 6 months out. Because at that point it all shakes out and ldl starts to decrease over all.
