Default Howdy!

Hi gang! I stumbled across this forum in a Google search and it looks like I can learn a lot here.

I am a 60 year old man who has been heavy for all of my adult life. I recently hit a wall and decided to do something about it and since March, 2016 I have lost 165 pounds! Most of it was on the Ideal Protein low carb, low fat, moderate protein program, but since the end of March 2017 I am out in the wild world of maintenance and trying to figure out how I want to eat for the rest of my life.

I am currently eating a hybrid of Primal and The Perfect Health Diet, so more on the moderate carb side. My current intake is 2700 calories (6’2”, 188 pounds, moderate-light activity), 50% fat, 30% carbs and 20% protein.

Congratulations CaptainRon. Awesome job on your weight loss. It is a rare thing to have that moment of clarity that puts you on the right path to regain your health. And if losing it was not hard enough, now the tougher job of maintenance.

I'm in the same boat. One thing I do know is that if I go back to eating the foods and carb heavy macros that I did before I will get fat and I will get sick again. I have remained low carb, though I have added back some higher carb foods after reaching my goal weight. It is a balancing act and I have not yet found the right LC zone for me. I'm still working on it.

Welcome to this forum. It really is a great place for information and support. This is a community of like-minded folks, a great bunch to share and bounce ideas off of. Losing weight is a tough job. Changing lifelong habits is tough, too. Perhaps that is why maintenance over time is so hard to achieve. That is one reason why I continue to participate in this forum. I won't consider myself successful unless I maintain my loss. There are successful maintainers here that I can learn from. So I stay and keep working at making this journey a success. Stick around and participate. We could use some more maintainers around here. So many maintainers tend to slip away from the forum (and often with undesirable consequences). If we want to be among the few that take the weight off and keep it off, then we need to stay focused. Participating here helps keep me focused.
