Metformin XR?

Hi everyone,

I just increased my dosage of Metformin (glucophage) to 1500 mg a day. That seems to be bothering my stomach (diarrhea). I don't know if that will go away in time (I sure hope so!). I'm wondering why the doc didn't just give me Metformin XR. Is there a reason the regular is better than the extended? Does the regular dose regulate insulin better?

And does the XR version really take care of this side effect?

Of course I just ordered a 90 day supply of Metformin by mail so I guess I'm stuck wtih this side effect for 3 months. Heavy sigh.
