Default The RubyTransformation, Lose 135lbs in2009

Takes a deep breath, let's begin!

NOTE: This is my very 1st discussion topic thingy and I am honestly not sure how to do it, so please bare with me, please... and please join me.

The Ruby Transformation Discussion, Lose up to 135 lbs in 2009

Hello, I hope I am doing this "right" by starting this thread in trying to touch and inspire people and myself by doing this "together" no matter what that we can "discuss" things and share and knowing that we are not alone, we have one another and we can share whats in in our minds and in our hearts and the lessons we learned from the past, now and the continual learning process in our daily lives that we will share no matter how small or how vase ..... so pleaseeeeeeeeeeee join in by posting in this thread.

I know that there is pretty much nothing we cannot do when I really focus and put my mind to things.... I also believe in determination even when we don't feel like doing anything..... but most of all I believe in working "Together" to lose up to 135 lbs in 2009 along with Ruby.

For most televisions: RUBY is shown on Sunday nights on the Style Network, please check your local listings in your area.

We can just take one step at a time, one meal at a time, one babystep at a time, one exercise movement at a time and we CAN and WILL do this with some hard work and determination.... that is what I believe and thats what I hope for in this Triple Digit Club group.

I watched the reality televison show called RUBY on Sunday and I could have sworn she was talking about me and I pray and hope that she touched you as well. so let's take this Discuss journey together with RUBY, hand in hand.

Maybe we can start off with listing what touched you the most about watching the reality tv show called: RUBY

How can you relate to what she shared?

What lessons did you learn from watching RUBY?

Are you ready to change your eating and cooking habits?

Will you commit to moving your body regularly to your level and beyond?

What lessons or realities will you encorporate in your life from watching RUBY?

What did you learn from the doctors? nutrionalist? trainer? physchotherapist?

I truly believe that if RUBY can do it.... so can we!

so let's do this together please... hand in hand and share along side me,

together WE can do anything!

I created this acro-nim (spell ck) below, because there is something about the Triple Digit Club and Ruby .... that inspires me and hopefully you as well to reach our goals this time around.

R = Reach for your dreams and never quit no matter what.

U = Underdogs Unite! Some may not believe in us, but we WILL achieve!

B = Believe in yourself, even when its hard to do so.

Y = YOU are worth it and Can and Will do it. YOU will win!

Thank you all for joining me here in this discussion/topic. Please discuss and share from your hearts of what you learned, your hopes, your dreams, your tips, your path, your journey, your goals and together, we WILL achieve and grow and make a change for the better!

NOTE: This is my very 1st discussion topic thingy and I am honestly not sure how to do it, so please bare with me, please... and please join me.

That is my belief, that is my dream... let's do it Together

Default Nov 09, 08 The first RUBY episode discussion/notes

* These are notes I took while watching the first television premiere episode of RUBY on 11/09/08
and I look forward to anyone sharing these notes or views
.

I took notes because I wanted to remember all the things I learned about Ruby in her journey and also to take notes to remember things that I learned and things I could Definitely relate to with Ruby ***

RUBY is a reality television show on the style network and her name is: Ruby Gettinger

Describes herself as being heavy since the age of 8 years old and at one point she reports she was 700 and something pounds.

Undergarments: Ruby shared how her underwear (panties) cost $30.00 due to her size and that people do not realize how expensive underwear is because it takes more material to make those panties that size.

Bed: Ruby shared how she has to put Bricks under her bad to hold the bed up.

Swelling: Ruby shared how if she sits too long at her computer desk, her ankles gets stiff and her feet, ankles and legs swell up.
NOTE: This happens to me too ... the swelling.

One of Ruby's dreams: is to get to a size which will enable her to sit and take a bubble bath in her bathtub. Right now, all she can take are showers.
NOTE: I can take a bath but have a LOT of difficulty getting UP and OUT of the tub due to my current size.

Uses Pillows to help her breathe: Ruby shared how she has an oversized love seat and she puts a pillow behind her when she sits because it is hard for her to breathe.

Ruby grew up in: Savahanna, Georgia

Jeff: is Ruby's childhood best friend and roommate.

Jim: is Ruby's Nephew who moved in with Ruby because his parents got a cat and he is allergic to cats.

Brittany: is Ruby's westcoast close friend whom she met while working as a receptionist at a health club (or gym). Brittany exercised there. Brittany (an actress by trade) flew out for the weekend to see and help Ruby during the premiere of RUBY on the style network on Sunday 11/09/08 at 7pm.

Ruby's Employment History and Disability: Ruby shared how she has had jobs in the past but now is currently on disability and desires to get into shape to be able to support herself. Ruby also shared how things are financially tight right now.

Ruby's life and food habits: Ruby shared how she loves her life just not her body. She also shared how she wasn't raised to eat healthy

Diets that Ruby and her friend Brittany have tried: The grapefruit diet, the Hollywood diet and the fasting diet to mention a few.

Not able to sit in a chair with arms: Ruby shared how she is not able to sit at the dinner table with her close friends because the chairs that her friends residence have arms to them which means she is unable to fit in them, so she has to sit on a couch at her friends house and her food is brought to her and placed on a t.v. tray in front of her.

to be continued....

I'm sure you don't mean to be rude, but we already *have* a thread for this in TDC started a couple of hours before this one.

Discussion threads are not "owned" by anyone -- they are "owned" by the people who participate in them, which is why creating duplicate threads for the same topic is often considered a little rude. Again, I am sure that isn't your intent.

Thank you lessliz for understanding that that was not my intention sincerely. I thought the other thread was to remind people that Ruby was coming to television and my intent with this thread is to join and learn from Rubys journey and discuss it in more depth... sincerely that was my intention.

May I ask please.... Would you maybe suggest for me to re-name this discussion thread? I would look forward to any possible solution advice you could offer if you would please as I am not familiar with protocol or how to like do a detailed discussion topic thread.

Thank you again for stopping by and I look forward to your response and/or any advice you can give me please.

and I look forward to anyone sharing these notes or views.

I took notes because I wanted to remember all the things I learned about Ruby in her journey and also to take notes to remember things that I learned and things I could Definitely relate to with Ruby ***

Notes continued.....

Taste for Sweets: Ruby shared how she developed a taste for sweets and unhealthy foods, just as an alcoholic graves alcohol.

Weight and Medical Condition: On the series premiere of RUBY, she weighed in at 473.2 lbs and her regular doctor described her condition as a metabolic disaster. It was also shared that either RUBY has diabetes or is a candidate to get diabetes (sorry I forgot which one) and the doctor talked to her about her losing weight and
the possible rammifications not losing weight which may result in :
The possible loss of vision,
possible loss of kidneys,
possible headaches,
possibly having a stroke,
and health wise, currently, she was told by the doctor that healthwise she has and lives the life of a person who "already" had a stroke
NOTE: A few months ago my regular doctor advised me to reduce my carbs dramatically to prevent a medical condition called Diabetes as it runs in my family.... I am still in the transition of learning to eat fresher wholesome foods as opposed to processed foods. My most difficult challenge is letting GO of bread.

Apnea: Ruby was diagnoised with Apnea, which is a loss of air while sleeping usually.

Ruby's doctors advice: if she didnt lose the weight, she could die and that if she wanted a healthy future in life, that "today" is the day you have to start.

Ruby's Determination: Ruby shared how it is time for her to make a change and take care of Ruby.
NOTE: I feel the same way... its time for us to take care of us Because so many times we are busy with work, paying bills and being someeone's mom, wife, etc.... that we forget to take care of ourselves and we place our health and possibly goals on the back burner. I think it is time for us to put us in the forefront imho.

Ruby's close friends describe her as: fun, loving and charming. Ruby's friends went on to share that Ruby manipulates her friends to be "enablers". Jim, Ruby's nephew, shared about his relationship with Ruby in this way....how when you love someone, you find yourself getting things for her that she is unable to get it herself.

Ruby describes her rebellion: Ruby shared how she admittedly gets hateful when her friends say she can't have this or that. For example: Chocolate or a donut.

Cars and seatbealts: Ruby shared how it is hard for her to get in and out of any car. She also shared how she is unable to put a seatbelt around due (due to her size), so she puts it on halfway around her so she can feel like she is obeying the seatbelt law.

Ruby's Love in her past relationship: Ruby shared how she was in love with this guy and he had told her "if you loose thie weight, I will marry you" Then he was gone.
NOTE: When I read that part of RUBY's journey, tears came to my eyes.... I had a similar memory of that happening so I could relate..... sighs. keyword: "similar" as it wasnt a wedding proposal... it was more of a ... well if you lose weight, we can have a relationship and be together.... as if my body was grossing him out oh well. (shrugs)

Ruby Very Much Protects herself, her romantic dreams and advice to men: Brittany had asked Ruby as they were sitting on a park bench, why Ruby dosent talk to her about guys and Ruby shared openly that she does not allow herself to go there... to the romantic side. Ruby shared how she dreams of being able to sit in someone's lap, and cuddling with the man who is to be in her life in the future. Ruby also shared that she never, ever wants to hear a guy tell her again that irf you lose weight I will marry you. She then looked at the camera and advised men to never tell that to a woman.
NOTE: I looked at the sincerity of Ruby as she spoke and listened to every word and it was like.... oh my goodness.... Ruby is in many ways "me".... I keep men at a distance because I do not want to go thru the rejection again or go thru the emotional termoils of being vulnerable and getting hurt or waiting by the phone or getting disapponted because he didnt call or stood me up, etc. Yep, I think many people can relate to RUBY's feelings and journey.

People gauking and staring at Ruby: Ruby shared how when she is outside in public that people stare at her and laugh at her. (then the camera turned a bit as she was walking and showed a couple taking pictures of Ruby as she walked by).
NOTE: to me, that was kind of sad...sighs. I can't even imagine what she feels like inside to have that happen to her, especially in public. I mean I know how I feel inside when I can't see my feet because my stomach is so far extended or how I feel when I am near a person who weighs much less than me.... but never had people laugh and stare at me... thats why my heart went out to Ruby, sincerely.

Ruby's Attempt to exercise: Ruby shared how her friend Brittany (who was flew out to Ruby's residence for the weekend ) wants to help her with eating healthier and exercising.. had convinced Ruby to at least walk on the treadmill 5 mintues every morning, first thing in the morning. Ruby agreed and also agreed that sometimes her walks will be outside, even when she doesnt feel like it. Ruby also shared her reality that sometimes she dosent want to walk and sometimes her weakened knees and ankles "hurt" by the weight they are carrying and supporting but that she will do the best she can.

Ruby's Trip to the Health Food store: Brittany took Ruby to the health food store to teach her how to shop for healthier foods and to consume/cook healtheir foods. Ruby's concern was showing Brittany how much more expensive it is to shop healthy.
NOTE: I found myself agreeing with RUBY in that regard because people like us who usually ate lots of carbs or are addicted to carbs quickly found out how much cheaper the wrong kinds of carbs are to endulge our cravings of certain foods and that healthier groceries "are" in fact more expensive.... but ya know what? WE are worth that investment and soon it becomes a good habit as I, myself, am learning The right kinds of carbs for my body for example would be healthier low gyclemic index vegetables, etc.

to be continued............

* These are notes I took while watching the first television premiere episode of RUBY on 11/09/08
and I look forward to anyone sharing these notes or views.

I took notes because I wanted to remember all the things I learned about Ruby in her journey and also to take notes to remember things that I learned and things I could Definitely relate to with Ruby ***

Notes continued..... This is the last set of entries of my notes that I took on episode "one" of RUBY.

Ruby shares how important it is for her to take care of ALL 5 areas: Ruby shared how she cannot beat obesity without going thru each and every part of the 5 things listed below:
Ruby's Obesity Specialist = placed her on a well-balanced meal plan
Ruby's regular Doctor = takes care of her medical needs.
Ruby's Trainer = helps her take care of her bodys needs.
Ruby's Physcholigst = takes care of her mental needs.
Ruby's Dietitian/Nutrionlist = teaches her how to eat healthier and prepares he meals for her, which is 3 meals per day plus 2 snacks = 2100 calories per day (if I remember correctly).

Ruby's sharing about the Physchologist: Ruby shared hwo she wants to be skinny and how she feels like she cannot conquer this until she finds out the truth. Ruby also shared how it is time to deal with the mental part and why she feels or thinks the way she does.

The Physchologist = Dr. Tim B: Shared how a lot of overweight people can have a variety of physocological problems.

Wt goal for Ruby to lose per her Physocologist: Dr. Tim believe or feels that Ruby needs to lose 275 lbs to improve her life and basically rate of survival.

Ruby and the physcologist: Ruby shared how she cannot remember her childhood. She remembers being born in port-cee-gal but only remembers beginning at age 12, not younger than the age of 12.

Ruby expresses her fear to remember: Ruby cried and shared how she is afraid to remember her younger childhood, because it's scary.

The physchologist believes: Dr. Tim B believes that Ruby experienced a traumatic event that she dosetn want to remember. He also shared that Rubys childhood is the "root" of her psychological problems.

Ruby shares her thoughts: Ruby shared how she has to get into shape and how this is her life, her last chance. Ruby believes that anyone can succeed their dreams. Ruby also shared how she always took the "easy road," the "quick fix" and how she now wants to choose the hard road and lose the weight for "Good."

Ruby shares More about her dreams: Ruby wants to one day be able to sit in a rocking chair, shop all day, go for a long ride by sitting on a horse, be able to polish her own toe nails, be able to cross her legs, be able to reach the top shelf, be able to sit on someone's lap, and she also imagines how it would feel to be be "under 200 lbs" for the first time in her life.

Conclusion summary of Ruby's 1st episode on 11/09/08:

The dietitian/nutrionalist requests and causes Ruby to commit to being strong enough to eat what is hers to eat.
NOTE: Wow, that was powerful statement and hit HOME big time for me, personally.... it takes commitment to only eat what is Mines to eat.

RUBY... welcome to Ruby's world.

" Ruby Gettinger has fought her entire life and at almost 500 pounds, she could die if she dosent lose weight, so please join her on her challenging journey. "

"Ruby has suffered from life-threatening obesity for most of her life and it has interferred with many of her dreams. "

"Food is her addiction, yet as much as she wants to defeat it, something always stops her. After her doctor tells her she could die if she dosent lose weight, Ruby resolves to do whatever it necessary to save her life and assembles a Team of Experts to help her change for "good." "

" One pal from Los Angeles, actress Brittany Daniel, arrives to support Ruby's change in lifestyle, but she seems to be a rare example. Most of Ruby's friends seem to enable her "addiction" with loads of calorie-packed southern-style cooking. "

"After an emotional visit to her therapist, Ruby realizes that her quest for health may involve an emotional and phsychological journey as well as a change in diet and exercise. "

"Ruby is witty, colorful, sweet and determinded but is she able to go the distance? "

"Ruby's closing comments for that first episode/blog journal: I am recording my journey so I cn go back and relfect on what I am thinking about things that are happening to me while I am on this diet. Maybe I will find out my hidden truth as to why I am over wight and maybe something "Good" will come out of it. When Ruby looks back to when she was 750 lbs she asks herself: what happened to you to get this big? Do you want to "settle" like this? I did not choose to be over weight nor did I choose to be 750 lbs. Since the age of 8, she has been struggling in being overweight. "

Previews for next weeks RUBY television reality show:
Displayed how Ruby's physchologist says to RUBY.... "The old Ruby has to die"

Thank for reading..... please feel free to share your views, thoughts, etc.

Thank you for taking the time to post all of this information. I wish you every success in reaching goal and I think Ruby is a good role model to learn from. Note the term: learn from?

Though we face similar difficulties we are all individuals and our paths are different to reach the same healthy end. I will be thankful to watch Ruby's journey and to take what strength I can from her effort. I will cheer her (and you and every single member of the TDC) on her way to a healthier life.

Peace and success and health and happiness on your quest.

Mister E,

This is embarrassing to admit ... but here goes.... when I read your above post, I cried because I thought I had hurt your feelings or offended you by creating this thread when you created the RUBY topic first (and after someone was kind enough to bring it to my attention ... I did apologize to you in your thread of RUBY).

I cried because you seem to understand our hearts and can relate to the quest of ours and including that of Rubys and ....

I just want to say thank you with all of my heart for being so kind and understanding and thank you for not being mad at me for my ignorance of website or internet protocols as I am still honestly and truly learning

and thank you for being so compassionate, sincerley, I mean that from my heart and good luck sincerely on your journey as well and

I am sorry I type so much detail... I really can't help it because I have OCD... Obessive Compulsive Disorder... I try to write with the K.I.S.S. method of keep it short and simple but never really learned that gift of brief writing, even in college unfortunately.

again thank you sincerely from my heart for real.

Peaches

In no way shape or form was I hurt by your post or forming this message chain.
Personally, I appreciate fully any person posting anything that they believe helps them or others.
A dozen message chains about Ruby may end up being posted before all the good we can milk out of this unique opportunity fades.
I appreciate you and all the others that try to do for themselves and others.
Now...to tell the truth one day I hope there is a success story of Peaches and MisterE that will give others inspiration. And know what? I think there will be. :-)

In the spirit of sharing information, and ............
