Atkins- I started in 1972.
Tab- first diet soda in US was originally sweetened with cyclamates and saccharin. Introduced in 1963.

I've been drinking various quantities and types of diet soda since 1972, and don't believe they have enhanced or blocked my weight loss. They are a pleasure I give myself in a world with few.

Twenty-two years ago doctors said I would have osteoporosis when I was 70. This year (my 72nd) my dexa showed I still don't have osteoporosis.

Genetically lucky? Maybe.

My n=1.

Then I add 2L of carbonated water (made with a Sodastream, so no phosphoric acid).

Great idea. I have a Sodastream, and this is a good way to control the sweetness and use Stevia in the process.

I'm too lazy for all that, I just add sugar-free liquid koolaid to club soda. I like the broader range of flavours possible, the powers that be have decided we'd rather have twelve types of diet cola than room on the grocery shelves for diet grape soda.
