Default Coles "Bacon Style Diced Pieces"

Hi guys,

I made a few phone calls (cos that's me hehe) and found out just what's in these "style" pieces. For anyone else that may be interested:

83% pork, salt, dextrose, sucrose, antioxidants, flavour.

Per 100g:
891 kJ
17.1g fat
16.7g sat'd fat
"less than 1g" carbohydrate total
1030mg sodium

Much better than the vague title implies

Thanks for that, Erika.

A couple of quibbles.... I presume the fat is more like 17.1, rather than 171? Because, with 9 cals per gram of fat, that would make it 6433 kilojoules.
And... any idea how much protein?

Cheers,

Roz

Lol oops you're right. I've corrected that now

Don't know about protein, it's funny people's presumptions. After asking kJ the girl immediately told me the fat grams broken down into sat'd fat (which I didn't ask) .. but I had to ask twice about carbs. I'll ask about protein when in the shop next I think

83% pork,

I got some of this the other day. However, I mistakenly thought that it was just chopped up bacon. But my wife alerted me to the fact that it was "bacon style" pieces.

Now, the ingredients may be pork and other things, but exactly which part of the pork is it?

A friend of ours who works in a meat processing plant described some products that it packs which supposedly goes into hamburger meat and which I don't really want to describe here as it's too gross. I'm hoping that these bacon style pieces aren't made from this sort of thing.

In any case, I threw it out not knowing what it is.

That was a smart move, mate.
