Default Definition of a Stall / YOUR experience with a stall

Is there a formal definition of a stall ? Are there different views (definitions) here ?
What is *YOUR* definition of a stall for *YOU* (and your experience) ?
Does discussing the idea of a stall help or hurt the person trying to lose weight ? What "caused" your stalls ?

I read a few old threads.
Here is what I have come up with so far.

STALL definition:'

Code:
4-6 weeks no weight loss, no inches lost. but you are still following the plan.

A stall is defined as going four weeks without weight loss or a loss in inches. One cannot always expect there to be consistent downward movement on the scale. One must account for daily fluctuations, that is why it is recommended to weigh once a week or to weigh every day and to average out the weights for the week. It is just this kind of info that is causing newbies out there to think that EVERYTHING will stall them and it's just not true!

Muscle is also being built, and water weight fluctuates due to a variety of factors. Temperature and humidity, hormones, sodium intake, supplements and medications, and the particular mix of food eaten and beverages drunk, can all effect water retention. The closer you get to goal the slower you will lose as well. That is a good thing. Atkins even states the slower you lose those last few pounds, the more likely you are to keep them off. That's why all stages of any plan are important instead of staying in the induction or first phase until goal. You may lose the weight better, but you won't have the experience in eating properly to maintain.

Too many people panic after just a couple days of no loss and try drastic measures. While fasting, fat fast, or re-feeds may work for some, quite a few others get thrown completely off track. A high carb day can renew cravings, and give the mind set of "it worked this one time, why couldn't it work again and again." With the fasts people will often times gain much of the weight back as soon as they begin eating normally and get even more discouraged. I am saying some, because like I said before, for some people these methods work.

Before you decide to do anything, remember patience and that there are times your body will rest or retain water more. If it has been a few weeks of no loss, then try asking for help. Share your daily menus as well as your ratios of fat/protien/carbs with the rest of the bored and see if any advice can be offered. You may also have food intolerences that didn't slow you down before, but the closer you get to goal, the more they effect you. Same with candida, it may not effect you the first couple weeks of induction, but when you get closer to goal it halts everything.

Weight after your period seems like a good idea.

If it hasn't been 4 weeks..or you haven't done some of those things...its not a stall

Did you dig up those quotes from our Tips and Stalls Sub-forum? http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=14
Dr Westman is my doctor so I still follow his definition.

Discussing it never caused a problem, he reinforced the "we don't count calories, but calories count" rule, especially important as you get near goal weight. It's still an issue for me as I bounce around the top weight of a healthy BMI.
