Our July get together was postponed and rearranged for Saturday 7th August.
If the weather is fine we are going to meet up in St James Park. The following meeting point is suggested:
Opposite horse-guards parade, there is a war memorial in the park. Facing the memorial from horse-guards, to your left is the lake. Between the memorial and the lake is a triangular patch of grass. I suggest we meet there as it's relatively easy to find and the toilets are nearby As is the new cafe/restaurant - terribly expensive
The war memorial is about equi-distant from Westminster, St James' Park and Charing Cross tube stations, depending which way you walk. If you go the the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace first, it's about a 20 minute walk from the other end of the Park, ie horse-guards is directly at the opposite end of the park to the Palace - it's a lovely walk from one to the other if it's not raining.
Here is a link to the
royal parks website. If you click on the map then you will see how the park is laid out. We are meeting towards the top end, on the right of the page. I will aim to get there around 12 30 and have a large black umbrella with me which I will open on the grass. If you are there before me, keep an eye out for me. Arrive when you want and leave when you want too.
Besides bringing your own lunch and drink, you will probably want to bring something to sit on.
If the forecast is for rain then we should adopt plan B and go to Yates in Leicester Square. The suggestion is to meet on the steps of St Martin's Church, say at 12 30 to 12 45. St Martin's is on the corner of St Martin's Place with Trafalgar Square, opposite the National Portrait Gallery. Charing Cross and Embankment Tubes are near by. I again will bring by black umbrella with me.
I hope to see not only familiar faces, but some new ones as well. Next week please drop by to confirm who is coming.
