Default Low Fat Foods are Making You Fatter

Posting this Truth Bomb for students and millennials in the Media section.
Adam busts some dietary myths wide open...to an entirely new audience.

Adam Ruins Everything is a popular show and this clip was from an episode on TruTV two nights ago. Although DH and I are in our late 60s, we have a 25 yo and so are exposed to, ahem, a wide range of media experiences.

Adam goes into the whole Keys vs Yudkin debate on this clip and the on to explain, in the broadest and funniest way, That low fat foods are making you fatter, how weight loss works, too much sugar stuffed into low fat foods, etc.

The whole episode is about 30 minutes for you TruTV fans

The downer part...watch out for Kevin Hall at the end, who in addition to explaining the sham of The Biggest Loser show (aka Fatty Melt) he of course has to get in a dig against Low Carb and Paleo diets too. He challenges how long can people do it? ...well the answer on this forum is quite long, many members for years. Of all the good scientists Adam could have picked...it was Kevin Hall who offered a weak ending to the previous good info on sugar, calories, energy balance, etc. You can watch it on demand on TruTV app, or search for a copy of S2Ep.2 on a well known video service. The whole 24.16 minutes is there or make it shorter...and cut it off at the point Adam sits down with a scientist.

Adam puts his sources on his website, the ones for this show: http://www.trutv.com/shows/adam-rui...eight-loss.html

I had to look up Paula Dean and see what she's up to after you mentioned her Thud.

This article about her in Readers Digest had a quote from a dietitian that I just had to post...
She's answering a question about Paula drinking Sweet Tea.

"A: Sugar doesn’t “give” you diabetes, but there’s one caveat: A study presented at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions last year found that women who drank two or more sugary drinks a day, even if they were a normal weight, were more likely to develop abnormal levels of fasting glucose—a sign of diabetes. “Liquid sugar may work differently from other sugar,” explains Campbell. “It seems to start a cycle that increases dangerous visceral fat, which can lead to metabolic syndrome, a precursor to type 2 diabetes.” Be mindful of how many sugary beverages you sip, especially if you have other diabetes risk factors, advises Campbell."

My next door neighbor, the one I am trying to help eat low carb, who weighs over 400 pounds, told me yesterday that the dietician at the hospital warned her against paleo because you have to eat lots of bugs to be truly paleo. At least she realized that this was ridiculous.
