Default positive effects of eliminating pasta and rice

In May of 2016 I came home from the physicians office knowing I had to make serious changes in my eating. At that point I decided to cut out pasta and rice. I really did not eat much bread so I did not consider it a problem. Over the next year I was jumping diet to diet and trying to figure out how to get the weight off. I tried diet pills, mega vitamins, drastic calorie reduction and more nonsense only to lose/gain/lose/gain. Nothing with stability.

In that course of time I never did go back to indulging in rice or pasta. I was eating them 3-4 times a week and cut back to maybe twice in a 2 month period and even then it was in reduced serving sizes. This was the only consistent change I kept up to where now I never eat rice or pasta and do not miss it.

My yearly doctor's visit shows the results of this. Again, I had been off my rocker shoveling anything bad in my face except rice and pasta and my cholesterol results have changed for the better. I am no chemist to understand the processes but I whole-heartedly believe its why the numbers are better.

May 2016 - chol 228, Trig 343, HDL 53, LDL 106, A1C 6.4
June 2017- chol 187, Trig 162, HDL 58, LDL 97, A1C 6.3

I have gained some weight back but still kept off 20+ lbs during this time.
My kidney function also improved.

I am more confident and convinced that low carb is the answer despite the naysayers. My next goal is to get that A1C down.

Those are impressive numbers!

I have wheat intolerance but for some reason I feel much better when I cut out all grains. When I cut them all out it seems a lot easier to me than just cutting out wheat. Rice is a big trigger for overeating with me ( along with bananas).

Keep going, maybe your challenge can be what you do eat rather than what you cut.

Wow! Indeed those are ecouraging numbers. All the best for getting your A1C down for the next check up. I also have to cut out all white food/starch in order to see good results.

This way of thinking is what I am trying to adopt. Today I am making roasted duck with celery and onion. I do not think I will miss the potatoes, in fact I do not have the 'itch' to add them. In addition I am trying to adopt low carb with anti-inflammatory diet choices and it is challenging as any dairy sets me off.

Try to eat more fat and meat and cut your carbs as low as you can go.
Over time your good cholesterol will go up, your A1c down and your weight down.
