Question When to eat

I like to work out in the morning. It ensures that I actually get my workout done and gives me an energy boost for the rest of the day. I workout about 30 minutes after I wake up and the workout is usually about 30 minutes long.

My question: should I eat something before my workout? The majority of places I've researched say that working out on an empty stomach you burn a lot more fat than with something there. I also know that it is not good to skip breakfast, or to go a period of time without eating-especially just after waking up. Also, I am never hungry after I work out so I usually wait another hour-2 hours after I wake up-to eat anything.

Should I eat something before my workout or just sooner after? I only eat fruit in the morning, but I could modify that. I feel good, but have only been doing this a week or so so I can't tell if I'm doing harm to my body quite yet. Thanks for your help!

You never got an answer - curious. I think at least in my diet its vital to have something. I read elsewhere here that its important to have some carbs after exercise. I would eat something afterwards even if you aren't hungry. I think the danger is muscle damage. Since its a month since you posted, please post what you have done.

I don't know why you said it's been a month since I posted, I posted yesterday. Anyway, I've just been in the habit of eating within 30 mins or so of waking up so not doing that feels weird and possibly unhealthy. I can eat a piece of fruit after my workout, but that's about it. Is it too detremental to my health? I figure a lot of other people must do this, too.

I usually exercise right away too and then eat my fruit. It's nice to have that little juicy reward right after exercising and then I feel like breakfast a little later.

After you eat, a lot of blood and energy is diverted to your digestion process so less is available for muscles etc to use. That's why you don't want to eat right before you exercise. I find that I need to exercise right away or a lot of times I just don't get around to it. I never have that problem with food though

Although "they" say you should eat first thing in the morning to raise your metabolism, when you think about it exercising raises it even better.

Eating fruit for breakfast is one of the healthiest habits you can have. I sort of consider it a breakfast appetizer because it doesn't fill you up for long, but gives you a nice easy start in the morning till you get around to making your actual "real" breakfast.

I think this is why the posted suggested you hadn't posted in a month, I think they were refering to THIS post not your others!
